Straw vote...Nerja or Marbella?

We have one week at a timeshare and have narrowed our choice down to these two places on the Spanish coast. We would welcome your vote as to which one we should choose...mid September. Thx.

I happen to love Nerja and we go there every year. If you are with RCI the timeshare is in Capistrano, I believe. It is lovely but it is not within walking distance to the beaches and old town. If it matters to you, check the locations of the timeshares in relation to the town center to help you make the decision.

If you do decide on Nerja and want some restaurant recs add 2592 after pj in my email address.

I have been to Marbella several times, never to Nerja. The Marriott Marbella Beach Resort, if that's where your choice is, is wonderful...but not within walking distance except to a few small bodegas and restaurants.

No contest - Nerja!! We're so glad we listened to Judi and others when planning our trip to Spain two years ago. It was one of the highpoints of our trip. We made the requisite drive through the coast cities such as Marbella, but they are drab and depressing (IMHO). Nerja, on the other hand, is small, friendly, picturesque, and relaxed, with wonderful beaches - and restaurants! We stayed at Hotel Carabeo and ate (twice) at the adjacent "34" restaurant - fabulous, and there's an Irish pub down the street (right, Judi?). If you want to see Marbella, drive there and look around for about an hour. That should take care of it. You'll enjoy Nerja so much.
Colleen, shhhhh! I'm so glad we discovered Nerja and that you had a great time there. You booked the Hotel Carabeo under the wire; it is now very expensive. I have been recommending the Hotel Paraiso del Mar. Last spring we met some Irish girls who said they were staying there. I asked how they liked it and they said it was filled with Americans! Oops..

I agree that Nerja is the best. Capistrano Playa is near the beach and about fifteen minutes walking distance to the Balcon.

needopinions, please let us know what you decide.

We're heavily leaning towards Nerja. Its next fall and we're not sure what week would be best here. Is it really crowded in September? What about the last part of September?

Hi!Stayed at Capistrano Village in Nerja 2 years ago.Enjoyed it very much.If you don*t rent a car there is quite a bit of walking and climbing to do.Buriana Beach is about a l5min.walk.Town centre about the same. There is a good size mercado 5 min. from there. You can see the ocean from your balcony. Also there is a dining area, a small bar and a strore were you can purchase some groceries, beer and wine and liquor.Whatever decision you make,, have a great time.Hope this will help.P.S. there is also a laundromat.
