Stonehenge tours
I am trying to decide between a tour of Bath and Stonehenge, or one of Avebury and Stonehenge inner circle after hours.
I have never been to any of these locations and it will be many years before I am likely to be in the area again.
Comments appreciated.

I spent two nights in Bath and also did the Astral Travels "Inner Circle" tour. IMHO, a single-day tour out of London that tries to include both Stonehenge and Bath won't do it justice, so I'd recommend the Inner-circle tour, it is unique and very enjoyable.

Keith, It really depends what intrests you.Avebury to me,was more interesting than stonehenge. It is a village, surrounded and encompassed by stones.
Bath is a beautiful small city with a lot of charm and great roman baths.
Stonehenge is a place we all see many pictures of and are fascinated by,maybe for that reason.
I think I would do the Stonehenge,Bath ttour...and save a
Avebury for another time.

On the other hand -- If you were to rent a car for the day you could easily do all three plus maybe a stop in Lacock or Castle Combe.
You could pick up a car early in the morning, drive west on the M4 to Avebury south to Stonehenge and be in Bath well before lunch time. Then after 4 to 6 hours in Bath you could drive to Lacock or Castle Combe and back on the M4 arriving in London (or at LHR if you rented the car there) in the early evening.
If you can't bear renting a car then go for the Stonehenge/Bath tour (but it will be more expensive than a 1-day car rental)

Ashura, Thanks for topping this. Somehow I had missed that there were replies.
Sounds like we may be there at the same time. I am looking at doing the Stonehenge tour on April 6 or 7.
Janis, the car rental sounds daunting. I am already renting a car for one night so I can get to the Manchester Airport from Blackpool on Easter morning, but at least the traffic should be light then.

Keith,
If you're going to Stonehenge, I highly recommend Astral Travels. You can find them at http://www.astraltravels.co.uk. Take the after hours tour that allows you to past the fence (really just a knee high rope) and into the circle. It will just be you and about 29 others, assuming two full vans. This allowed me to take pictures without anyone in the background. In addition to Stonehenge, they take you to a few other places along the way.
They pick you up in a van at the Earls Court tube. The van had airline type seats, complete with overhead storage and air vent. If you can, ask for the driver named David. He was courteous, knowledgeable, and encouraged the teens on the tour to ask questions.
It cost 90 GBP per person if I recall, and well worth it.
