Here are a some addresses and phone numbers for English Heritage. A direct number to private access is 44 1980 626267 email: [email protected] and the office in Wiltshire 44 1980 625368 web site www.english-heritage.org.uk/stonehenge. I talked to a very helpful person at the office in Wiltshire today and made my reservation with her. Hope this helps. Deborah

Good point about the time difference, I thought I was calling within the Stonehenge hours of operation but was late by one half hour. The woman who took my call was very kind and willing to start up the computer again to take my reservation. They are only open until 4:30 in the afternoon at this time of the year. Not sure if she will be around at 5:00 tomorrow like she was today, she said something about it not looking like she was going to make it to the gym!!! She did say her boss was the reason she was going to miss her gym time. Let me know if I can give any more help. Deborah

Does anyone have info on tour companies that arrange customised tours? We're trying to do the evening special access at Stonehenge as well as Bath on April 12th. Evening special access on that date is not listed with Astral or Stonehenge tours even though it appears to be available per English Heritage website.

Arranging private access on one's own is indeed possible (and easy). The trick is finding the info. on the web: one way of navigating the English Heritage web site doesn't seem to get one to the right pages, but if you go directly to http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/stonehenge, then go to "Planning your visit", then follow the link to the "Private access" page, you will be there. That last page has a link to a downloadable PDF file that you can fill out and send in.
I actually emailed my completed form to them, with credit card #, and they emailed me back the "ticket". (I was worried about the US and Royal Mails being fast enough.) In addition, an email query to English Heritage regarding available times allowed me to just apply for times I knew were available, thus avoiding many potential rounds of application. The private access application form contains the email of a person who can answer such questions (and did so quickly).
Good luck!
