stockholm First Hotel Reisen - any opinions?

hi Fodorites
have just taken the plunge and booked this hotel through hotel.com

a superior room for three nights -
$1 175 AUD total with breakfast ( breakfast is listed as 29 aud each) thats about 391aud per night

(couldve had the slightly smaller standard room for 346 a night but i think size does matter in sweden)

i think this is pretty ok for stockhoim given that it is so expensive
this hotel is in the gamla stan ( the old town) and the rooms have waterfront views

has anyone stayed here
the reviews all seemed favourable but perhaps someone has some other insight

i looked at the berns hotel which looked great but apparently the noise from the nightclub upstairs is shocking and goes on til 5 am

i can of course cancel my booking
if anyone can suggest a better place for about the same money

apparently it's about 300 m to the slussen and gamla stan t-banen stations and the bus stop is almost right outside

we intend to stay only three nights so i was really aiming to stay close to the old town and ferries

grateful for any opinions! thanks

i noted that some tours take their parties to the first reisen- a great recommendation lol
no but seriously it does look good - it may well be the best place we get to stay on our russian/scandinavian trip- we'll see!

I didn't stay at that hotel but did stay in Gamla Stan. It's a great area, great for strolling, shopping if you like..or not..I think you'll really like it there.

shopping - not really - apparently it is overpriced around gamla stan as would be expected but we try to stay around the old town area of any city when we travel
for us it is isnt worth staying out of town when youre only staying three days or so

A friend and I stayed here three summers ago. The view from our waterfront window was fantastic. I hated to go to sleep at night because of the beauty. The location is great! Our best meal was at Fem Sma (little circle over a) Hus. I think it is on Nygrand, not far from the hotel. We also like Prinsens in Norrmalm. Summer in Stockholm is magic! Boots
