I've always there is nothing wrong with using the tube out of Heathrow..it is very cheap and under the right circumstances can cost as little as £1 if coupled with a 7 day zone 1 & 2 travelcard on oyster outside the hours of 0700 to 1900 on weekdays (£1.80 during those hours, still a bargain)...
However, the new pattern is now in effect which will make getting back to Heathrow from London much less efficient.
Up till now, all Picadilly line service to Heathrow went on a loop from Hatton Cross station to Terminal 4 then to Terminal 3...any Heathrow bound train would do and they usually ran about 4 or 5 minutes apart.
But the new pattern they have decided to implement is now in effect....trains split leaving Hatton Cross some go to Terminals 1,2,3 (and then will go to Terminal 5 when it opens next month) while the other half go to Terminal 4...halving service for anybody. Terminal 4 will be the last stop of one branch and Terminal 5 (now Terminal 1,2,3) the other last stop...both will then branch back for the return trip to terminals 1,2,3 stop...meaning leaving from either terminal 4 or terminal 5, trains will run every 10 to 15 minutes all stopping at Terminals 1,2,3 stop before heading back to Central London...oh well still the best bargain to and from Heathrow just more time consuming on the way there!
