Keith and I are travelling to Paris for the Christmas holiday season. We were thinking of staying in the 9th, near Galeries Lafayette & Metro Peletier.
We are thinking it will be easier to get to Gare du Nord for RER, easier access to Sacre Coeur, holiday windows at Printemps, food halls at Galeries Lafayette, and close to Hediard and Laduree.

The 9th arrondissement is an excellent place to stay.

Oui. Lots of great restaurants too.

I recommend Eugene en ville close to Peletier metro. And I had a great dinner at 'Meriggio' italian food - on grands boulevards.

I stay there now and again but not near the dept stores. My favorite hotel I stay at is the Hotel Langlois which is near Trinite metro stop. But it sounds like you already have a place picked out.

I prefer the 11th.

Isn't the Hediard at the Madeleine closed? Better check before you plan a visit there. The 9th has all sorts of interesting and unusual nooks and crannies that a web search or good guidebook would list. Among many other delights, La Musee de la vie Romantique has reopened after a long re-do.

Hotel Chopin located in Passage Jouffroy in the 9th is a charming, cozy hidden gem. It's no frills, quirky and beautifully situated with a passage across the street and another just behind, chock full of fascinating shops, grocery stores and restaurants near the Grands Boulevards. Bouillon Chartier is just around the corner, Aux Lyonnaise a nice walk away in the direction of Galleries Lafayette and Aux Printemps. Opera Garnier nearby. Might be worth a look on line depending on your needs. Not sure about the name of the close by Metro since I either walk or cab it when I'm there. I loved it!

First time I visited Paris I stayed in the 9th and it still charms me. I vote oui.

And it's gorgeous. That museum offers such an insight into the 19th century Parisian art market. And it has an interesting history in its own right, being the studio of Dutch painter Ary Scheffer.

Haven't read it, but fwiw this book appears to have been favourably received -

The Musée de la Vie Romantique also has a darling saln de thé, though I imagine its charms might be slightly diminished in December.
