We have to get from Stansted to Heathrow. Any suggestions. Also, we depart Heathrow early the next morning...any reommendations on a Hotel w/i walking distance of terminal 3?

Bus is clearly the way to go. Search here on "Stansted and Heathrow". The web site is National Express or something like that.

There are no hotels walking distance to T-3. There is a hotel at T-4, but it is a lot farther from terminal 3 than most of the offsite airport hotels.

The two closest are probably the Le Meridien, and the Sheraton Skyline. But both are about 3/4 mile away.

So you will have to use a taxi or shuttle no matter where you stay - I'd just pick the one you can get the best rate.

Marriott, Holiday Inn and several others are within 1 or 1.5 miles.

Here is a quote from Rick Steves' London 2001 guidebook. (The prices are certain to be out of date.)

"Consider the Heathrow Ibis (Db-60, breakfast extra, CC:VMA, shuttle bus to terminals except to T-4, 112 Bath Road, tel. 020/8759-4888, fax 020/8564-7894, www.ibishotel.com). Heathrow Travelodge is another option (300 rooms, Db-70, free shuttle to/from all terminals, Bath Road, off A4, behind Le Meridian Excelsior Hotel, half-mile from airport, tel. 0870-905-6343, www.travelodge.co.uk)."

Thank you guys for the responses. I will look at the hotels you recommened. I guess we will be catching a short cab (or grab the shuttle). With this in mind, any idea which of the aforementioned hotels is closest to where the Stansted to Heathrow coach (National Express) drops off (ie. Heathrow Central Bus station)?

The bus station is near the terminal - so proximity to the hotels would be all about the same. From .7 to 1.5+ miles - except for the one at T-4 which 4 or 5 miles away.
