Staffa question

I posted this a few days ago but it looks like it didn't show up on the UK forum. I'm trying again.
I recommended to a friend, who leaves for Scotland in 3 days, to not miss Staffa; but they don't have time to spend a whole day (they need to get to Glasgow on the same day). Wondering if it's possible to take early ferry to Mull (from Oban or somewhere else?), bus across Mull and boat to Staffa and back in time to get to Glasgow by evening of same day? I've gone but went to Iona as part of the trip which meant we got back to Oban in early evenng which is too late for friend traveling with 7 and 11 year old to then get to Glasgow. Thanks.

I can't believe it's possible but the details are on www.staffatours.com.

I've not been to Mull for several years but I seem to recall that it's a good 5-6 hour drive from Oban to Glasgow. Oban to Mull ferry takes a couple of hours (each way). Not sure about buses (or even if there are any on Mull) but conceivably could taxi? And the boat trip itself takes a 2-3 hours.

In summary I don't think this is possible.

"Diz01" can't have been to Mull for many years. The ferry from Oban to Craignure takes 45 minutes and the road journey to Glasgow can probably be done in three hours.
The trip is possible in theory. There is an early excursion to Staffa, taking the ferry from Oban at 0745 and getting back at 1745 to connect with the 1819 train to Glasgow, arriving at 2125.

Sorry not to have been here and I know this is too late, but for the record, you could get the boat from Oban to Craignure at 7am and drive to Fhionnphort- arriving there about 9am. By my reading of it you could be back in Fhionnphort at about 1pm, and that would get you back to Oban about 3.45.

You COULD take a trip from Oban at 7am all the way by boat- which is due back in at 5.45pm.

It then takes about 2 1/2 hours to drive to Glasgow.

Doable...........but barking mad!

There is a ferry from Oban to Craignure at 0700 only on Mondays - on other days, it's at 0745 or on Saturdays at 0730. There is no boat from Oban "all the way" to Staffa.

Yes there is. It's not a ferry, it's a tour boat; and there's more than one.

And you're quite right, there is only a Monday boat at 7am. The good news however, is that there's still time to get that trip boat from Fhionnphort.

The excursions advertised from Oban to Staffa are by ferry to Craignure, then bus to Fionnphort and boat to Staffa (www.staffatours.com). There have not been regular excursions all the way by sea from Oban to Iona and Staffa since the 1980s.

Sorry, I haven't checked back here since the friends I was asking for left last week. But again, it is wonderful the extent and detail of the information that resides in this community. Thanks to all for your efforts.........I knew it was a long shot but was trying to give them a chance to show their kids Staffa in a crowded schedule. I'll let you know what my friends wound up doing.
