Does the Gasthaus Zauner have nice accommodations? Looking at their website, they look fairly nice. Any comments on their rooms and views from their rooms?

I have never stayed at the Gasthaus Zauner, but have been to the restaurants. It seems nice enough, but not located on the lake. It might be possible to get a room with a water view since the hotel is located a little above the lake. I have stayed many times at Gasthaus Simony. It is not for everyone, but I love it. I always have a room on the water with a balcony. There are old wooden squeaky floors and steps only-no elevator. Breakfast is nice, small area, but I have never had a problem getting a table.

The room we had at the Zauner was "rustic" and not luxurious at all. But it was fine and the restaurant is very good. As stated, the hotel is not on the lake but certain rooms do have a "view" of the lake.

Thanks! At Gasthaus Simony, what room do you stay in that is on the water with a balcony? I would like to be able to request that specific one, if possible. Thanks again!

The Simony wouldn't "guarantee" us a room with a balcony but we did get one when we checked in. The Simony has a fabulos location but it is definitely no frills. There is no phone, tv or radio and breakfast is pretty skimpy. To me, the price was a bit high for what you get room-wise, BUT again, it's the location that you are paying for.

Roxanne

I stay in Room 11 but it is a very small single room. Some of the rooms do not have a bathroom if that matters to you. Like Betty said, there are no frills at all. It's an old house, but I really like the room I get with the balcony. Be sure to try the restaurant there too. The food is really good as is the Gasthaus Zauner restaurant. If you would rather have a new modern room, the Heritage Hotel will be for you. It is located right on the lake just feet from the ferry dock.

Also, if you have time, go up to Five Fingers. I go by bus. The views are wonderful. The five fingers refer to five platforms of glass that extend out past the edge of the mountain. My son refused to even come close to take my picture.

It is also good to know that the Gasthaus Simony does not accept credit cards-cash only.

Thanks all!! I don't necessarily need modern, I like old with character. Most importantly is the view and for the room to be clean!

Thanks for the Five Fingers info, scatcat!

Has anyone heard of this place: House Sarstein?
It's on the lake but indicates it's just outside of town and is walkable. I'm just wondering how walkable. I live in NYC and walk all the time but being that we'll only have 2 days there, I don't want to spend a lot of time walking into town... 10 min walk would probably be max...

Thanks again everyone!

Looking at Google, it's only about 350 meters to the market square which is the center town. Should be able to walk that in 5 minutes or so.

While we always stay in the center of town, the majority of the reviews on Trip Advisor are positive.

I also found a video on YouTube someone took of their room at the Sarstein.
