We are planning to stay in St Remy for 3 nights in early June. Any hotel suggestions? We will have a car and plan to day trip in area. I've read reviews on Trip Advisor and have 3 possibles. Le Mas des Carassins, Le Castelet des Alpilles, Atelier de Image.
Any other suggestions or opinons on these hotels?

We stayed at the Atelier that is right in the middle of town.
They have their own car pack.
Once inside you would never know you were in the city, there's so much to do, a pool, a labyrinth, vegetale garden, a huge scren to watch movies a pool table.
We enjoyed our stay there.

If you want budget, which you probably don't, I feel safe in recommending Villa Glannum...across the highway from Glannum, the Roman ruins, and the Van Gogh sanitarium...you can walk to town (15 minutes) or drive in...plenty of parking in its olive groves, very nice pool and restaurant. We thought it was more than just adequate..we had stayed at Chateau Roussilon twice before that (on the other side of St. R)..but it had become quite run-down so we opted for the VG.

Perfect base for day trips in the region.

Check out the Hôtel Gounod.

We really liked the Domaine de Valmouriane, on the road to Les Baux. Ground-floor rooms (and they are large) have their own patio. The hotel's grounds are very nice, and there is gated parking.

I think you mean Chateau de Roussan. I spent two very unpleasant nights there in 1995--only spent the second night because they had insisted on prepayment.

The web site says it's closed for rennovation until Spring 2009. One can only hope--the photos on the site are beautiful. It would be wonderful if it were brought up to the 21st Century, or even the 20th!

correct....we stayed in 1991 and 1993...quite OK back then...we took a sneak peak at it when we were in St. R in '06...ugh! Therefore, we opted for Villa Glannum.

Spent a week at Le Mas des Carassins in 2007. We had a lovely room upstairs. Nice windows that looked out over the olive trees and patio.

Our friends had a room on lst floor with a private patio. I didn't like this location because the only light was through the door leading to the patio and you had to keep it shut for the bees or at night for safety.

We ate at the hotel several times and it was wonderful.

Good choice if you have an upstairs room.

Happy to hear it...here in California I refer to him as the poor man's Madoff! Sadly, I personally know a few people who he burnt badly...401K's kaput! yet no jail time.

No, we had one of the "cottage blocks" and heard nothing...

Whatever you decide, you'll enjoy St. Remy...by the way, there is a
"not-too-well-known" 15th
Century Jewish Cememtery in St. R....fascinating.(I can post pix if you wish)

No! Domaine de V is not whithin walking distance.
It's expensive but nice.

We enjoyed our stay at Le Mas des Carassins 4 summers back...lovely pool and wonderful outdoor dinners...a quick, convenient walk to town as well!

Whether the Domaine de Valmouriane is within walking distance of St-Rémy probably depends on what kind of walker you are! We used the car.

We stayed at Château de Roussan some years back and enjoyed it, shabbiness and all--although parts of the hotel were certainly eccentric. However, the swans on the little canal were delightful, even if the geese did attack my husband we enjoyed the bucolic setting.

Another vote for Le Mas des Carassins. We stayed for three nights in June 2006, in a two-room suite downstairs with a patio. It was very nice, but we did not spend enough time at the Mas to use the patio. Dinner was good. Gracious, English-speaking hosts. Within a five-minute walk to St. Remy. Reasonably priced. What's not to like?

We stayed in an "apartment" at the Hotel du Soleil. It was great! Not super fashionable, but comfy bed, nice small kitchen and huge living area. We were there for 5 days, and we were very glad we had an apt! Would highly recommend!

Another option to check out: Hotel Sous Les Figuiers. We stayed there for a week in July. Lovely, quiet setting. Close to town (5 minute walk). Charming, helpful owners. We loved it!

We stayed at Le Mas des Carassins in May 2008 and would recommend it. We had a room upstairs over looking the garden. We had a very nice dinner there as well. I can't remember the name of our room, but it might have been something along the lines of the menagerie?

I did notice on the Château de Roussan website that they are closed for renovations.

We looked at Hotel Sous Les Figuiers and they have no rooms available during our stay. I guess we better get going on our decision.
