St. Petersburg worth a visit
Hi
My wife is going on a business trip to St. Petersburg and of course I'm wondering if I should go along
But I have to admit that I know next to nothing about St. Petersburg and what there is to see and do there. Is it worth a 4 day stay and is it easy for a tourist to get around? Anyone got any trip reports for me?
Regards

OMG - Of course it is "worth it"! St Petersburg is an amazing place w/ one museum alone (the Hermitage) worth a day by itself. Plus palaces, gardens and so on. Do a teensy bit of reaserch and you will be blown away (click on DESTINATIONS above to start.

I spent three days there a couple of years ago and would absolutely jump at the chance to go back. I found it easy enough to get around in the city center. When is the trip?
I was on a tour, so I didn't do a real trip report, but I do have some photos in case that gives you some ideas:

It is absolutely worth a 4 day stay. If you are going around on your own, especially if you will be riding the metro, I would recommend learning the Cyrillic alphabet. Once you know that, words can be pronounced and they often make sense even tho you don't really know any Russian.
Even without that, I think you could get around if you are used to traveling in Europe. Do some study ahead of time to see what you want to see and make some plans about how you are going to get to those places. Some of the palaces would probably best be done on a tour since they are outside of St. Petersburg. They are too wonderful to miss. Especially Peterhof and the fountains.
