Colin: I've really enjoyed your travelogue. Particularly enjoyed the fondue story! My husband and I are leaving for Moscow and St. Petersburg in two weeks. Kathy

Have a fabulous time Kathy !!

I dearly wish to return to St. Petersburg around this time of year.

It was a magnificent city, and I'm sure it will be even more pleasureable in warmer sunshine of June!

Moscow was fascinating, if a little intimidating, but I am so glad we made the effort to go there. To see the Kremlin, Lenin's tomb and St. Basil's cathedral was an amazing experience.

Do let us know how your vacation went.

Colin

St. Pete in June with "white nights" and so on is great. But this year they will be celebrating its 300 years anniversary, lots of officials are going to arrive (incl. Mr. Bush), lots of security, traffic problems, etc. Our (Russian) mass media advise the locals to leave the city for that period. Lots of Muscovites take to St.Pete for a weekend (one night by train), but this year I would think twice before going.
Besides Moscow and St.Petersburg one can take a trip around the 'Golden Ring' - it's a group of towns around the Moscow region that date back to the X-XII cent. I don't know though if American travel agencies offer such tours. but I guess it's easy to find out.

I wish that I had done 'the Ring' whilst I was in Moscow.

The towns of Sergiev Posad, Vladimir and Suzdal are all World Heritage Sites as well as Kolomenskoye.

I failed to see any of them, and am disappointed.

Novodiechy Convent was spectacular, and I did manage to see that !!

Colin: Thanks so much for posting the link to your fabulous adventures!

My husband and I are headed to Moscow and St. Petersburg next month. We timed it for the White Nights and just after the anniversary celebrations, and are really looking forward to it.

Have a wonderful experience in Russia! You are going during an excellent time of year, the White Nights of June.

I wish to return to St. Petersburg during the White Nights. I didn't get to see the incredible fountains at Peterhoff (due to the sub-zero winter temperatures!)

I'm sure St.Petersburg will offer you something different than anywhere else.

Moscow is Moscow, one of the most intriguing cities of the world !

Have a great time!
