Please help me choose an apartment for my honeymoon in Paris. (We have never been to Paris.) Here are the main things we are looking for: to be able to prepare some meals at the apartment, to be in a relatively safe area, to be close to outdoor cafes or markets, close to the Metro, and as quiet as possible. I have found three apartments within our price range, two are in St. Germain near Rue Cler and the other is in the 16th on Rue Scheffer. We thought Rue Cler would be great,then we saw the view of the Eiffel Tower from the Trocadero area and now cannot make up our minds! Thanks so much!

I see now that Rue Cler is actually in the 7th. I'm afraid that I will be just as lost and confused in Paris as I am now!

Definitely St.Germain. I've been vacationing in Paris almost annually since the mid 70s and have stayed in St. Germain since the early 80s. Happy Travels!

I've stayed in the 6th and enjoyed it. Great neighborhood. Been to Paris 3 times ... I'm not all knowing about Paris - I'm still learning. I think its strange, but I haven't been to the Eiffel Tower, YET! Simply haven't made the time, I'm a big fan of walking around and getting lost though.
One thing I, a novice, can tell you, is Paris is VERY easy to get around. There are LOTS of markets; LOTS of cafes, restaurants, etc. LOTS of Metro spots (as you read up, you'll notice that most "addresses" include the Metro stop its near). These things are all over the city...none at any one place, as well as all the museums, churchs, parks, "sights" and whathaveyou.
The apartment is a great idea for your romantic honeymoon.
Now its just up to you to decide, I don't think you can make a bad decision.
Well, you could make one. <GRIN> You might have picked an apartment in the Pigalle or by Les Halles, but you didn't so you'll be fine!

We take the opposite view. We used to stay in the 7th and now won't stay anywhere but the 16th in the Victor Hugo neighborhood. We find it beautiful and peaceful, with plenty of cafes, restaurants, shops and food markets.
However, as this is your first visit, you might prefer the rue Cler area of the 7th. It's more tourist-oriented.
My own personal view is that a hotel is the best choice for a first visit to Paris, but you're getting some good rates on the apartments. If the three you listed, the last one, id_02.htm seems the nicest.

I stayed in the Rue Cler area last winter, after staying in the Marais for my two previous trips. I really enjoyed it. The market street and surrounding area were wonderful, and we loved being able to walk over to the park surrounding the Eifel Tower to watch it light up at night.

I know that some people complain about too many Rick-Steeves-toting Americans in the Rue Cler during the summer, but I wouldn't let that worry you.

The garden studio looks great for the money (I've bookmarked it for future trips). The private patio would be wonderful and romantic for candlelight dinners if you go during nice weather- the other two choices don't seem to have much room for dining.

I personally wouldn't choose the Trocadero apartment because it looks like you will be cooped up in one tiny, shabby room with the kitchen in the closet. Notice that the view of the Tower isn't from the apartment, but from the Trocadero. You will actually be closer to the Tower, I think, in the Rue Cler area. You will catch glimpses of it all the time as you walk around because it is right above you.

I've only stayed in hotels in Paris up until now and usually on the Left Bank (Latin Quartier). We are leaving in 3 days to stay in an apartment close to the Eiffel Tower but still on the Left Bank in the 7th. Things are very easily accessed by metro and on foot in all your locations.

My first instinct however was for your garden studio apartment. It looks lovely. I do also like to read comments from previous visitors.

You just have to jump and make a choice. Have a wonderful honeymoon, what a great place to celebrate your marriage. ~o)

I recently stayed in one of the Citadines apartments in Paris. It is called Citadines St. Germaine des Pres. Located almost at the foot of the Pont Neuf bridge in the 6th. Fabulous views of the Louvre and Notre Dame.
I had a Studio with a nice kitchenette.
Citadines has a number of locations in Paris. I also saw the one in Chatalet Les Halles, but stayed at St Germain. Location was great. Close to the metro, and walking distance to some great attractions.

I lived in the 6th for two years at Saint Germain des Pres on Boulevard Saint Germain. It's a very lively neighborhood and is centrally located. The 16th seems to be more residential and you will have to take the Metro or bus to get to the tourist attractions. Saint Germain des Pres has great markets (especially on Rue de Buci), or you can go to the local super market Monoprix on Rue de Rennes. I would take the one in the 6th arrondissment.

I am planning my first visit to Paris and we have rented an apartment in the 16th. Very near the Trocadero.

I think it will be perfect, close to the metro, cafes and market and yet out of the main tourist zone. It should be safe, the Embassy of Kuwait is on the corner, who could ask for anything more?

I stayed in both districts and really prefer the 6th alot more than the 16th. The 16th is pictureseque with the Eiffel Tower and the nice neighborhood. But I really like the liveliness of the 6th alot more. You can walk from the 6th to the 1st, 4th, 5th, and 7th for example. So much to see and so many cafes and restaurants around. I didn't find that in the 16th where it was so quiet in comparison especially at night. Plus I thought it was a drag to always have to take the metro to go to the same areas I mentioned above.
