Split, Croatia - Hotels

Does anyone have any comments on the following hotels:

Hotel Split
Hotel Marjan
Hotel President
Hotel Adriana

Any recommendations for any others. Thanks in advance.

I stayed at Hotel Marjan in Split 2 days ago. It is a tired-looking modern hotel, but it is understandable as the hotel had housed refugees for few years. If you could have a room facing the sea, it should be all right.

But the location is great, facing the habour, just 5 minutes walk to the Palace. the promenade was lively till late in the night.

We will be in Split in early October, so I don't have first hand knowledge. However, we originally booked the Hotel Marjan and then changed it to the President. I was not impressed with the Marjan pictures on the web site and later spoke to someone who stayed at the President. His opinion was that the President would be a better choice because the rooms were nicer. I believe they both have good locations.

you may want to post your question on the Split forum at virtualtourist.com - some people who actually live in Croatia frequently check it to answer questions.

I did get some Virtual Tourist advice forwarded by a fellow Fodorite who has been very helpful in planning my trip to Croatia. The VT person said that the Hotel Marjan was very run down after the war. I am staying at the Hotel President, which is a newer 4 star hotel. I will let you know how it was when I return.

The Hotel President was a lovely hotel and the staff couldn't have been nicer. It's only a short walk to town and the rooms were great. The Hotel Marjan didn't appeal to me at all. It is still damaged from the war and I was told no one has rooms above the 1st floor.
