I have 6 days to spend on Dalmatian Coast...where should I go and what hostels/towns would be good to stay in with my fiancee? I only wanted to spend under $100 USD a night on lodging. Thanks!

when are you going? The season makes a difference in price.
6 days is not a long time. Most would recommend Dubrovnik with a side trip.

We will be in Croatia from about 14 Jul-20 Jul. We would like to only go to maybe two places on the Dalmatian Coast. Maybe Dubrovnik and one of the islands? Which island is best to take a ferry to and visit for a couple of nights?

Start in Split; day trip to Trogir, a UNESCO heritage town. Take the ferry to the island of Hvar. From Hvar, take the ferry to Dubrovnik. The ferry schedules will determine how much time you spend on the island.

dont worry about accommodation
there are plenty of rooms avaible
look for zimmer signs or sobje
thery about 25 euros a night

when in town go to the tourist bureau and they will call anyone on their books who has a room
really cheap in croatia so dont sweat it
you will have a blast

Check out other postings on the same theme...the majority of people (ok, me included) will say that staying in Trogir and visiting Split would provide a much more charming experience. I think you'd find that a half day visit to Diocletian's Palace and the waterfront will satisfy most of you interest in Split. Trogir is small but the atmosphere will make up for its size.

If you have access to a car, you could also sleep in one of the small villages along the coast and potentially get waterfront accommodation for quite cheap. I usually stay in Kastela which is on the water, between Split (20 mins away) and Trogir (5 minutes away) and pay about 30 Euros for a great little place.

Hi JoanW
Here's a link to the place that I've returned to. The family is very friendly and I feel that the apartments are a very good value, though if you're looking for luxury go elsewhere. The hosts will cook you a great dinner if you ask them the night before (so that they can hit the fish market in the morning) and the apartment is right on what is virtually a private beach. Their English isn't SO great but if you ask for Marija you'll get the help you need.

Hi,
I'm very greatfull that you like Dalmatian coast. On web link http://www.trogir.in you can find more accommodations in Trogir riviera. Price is adaptive for everybody. Regards

We stayed in Room Karla in Dubrovnik. It is just outside the Old Town, across the street from the Minceta Fortress (the highest tower on the wall around the city). It was 45 euro a night, had a tv, a/c, a private bathroom and a rooftop terrace with a nice view. I recommend it to anyone not wanting to spend a lot on accommodations but still wanting something nice.

I second staying in Trogir rather than Split. I have found a few hours to be sufficient for Split, especially when time is restricted.

Lokrum is an easy island to get to and lovely - far less touristed than many. My favourite islands are Vis and Mljet for that reason.
