Thank you Egbert and to mikelg again.. wonderful help! I may look into Cadiz. My boys are teens, but believe it or not they love it quiet. (last summer (First weeks of July) we spent 10 days on Santorini and they loved it. It was busy with mostly adults and they were never bored-- They prefer the rocky beaches to the ones with sand ( I have no idea why??? I like sand) I don't mind if they are not like the Cape, it is fun to experience new things.
I have started research on Sevilla and it sounds wonderful. We will plan on flying into Madrid. I would like to plan on three nights Sevilla... How many would you plan for Madrid? From the sounds of things...we would also like to see Granada and end in either Cadiz or Malaga.
Thank you again. my best to all for the holidays.

one more thing.. I wrote the boys love it quiet.. I know it will not be "quiet" when we travel in summer months.. I just meant.. they do not need a lot of activities...

sorry if that was misleading..
thank you all again.

a familiar theme but...cadiz province beaches win hands down every time over malaga's. el palmar, roche, zahara de los atunes, canos de meca, puerto de santa maria, chiclana, tarifa, sanlucar & across the river - all top beach areas

Then either Cádiz or Almería beaches will be perfect for you.

Two or three nights in Madrid, maybe you should stick to two nights per city (but also taking into account that Madrid is the capital city of Spain and has lots of things to do and see...so three is not a bad option either)

I visited Cadiz by taking the little and I mean little, boat ferry across from Puerto de Santa Maria-perfect for relaxing.I am sure you all would enjoy the boat ride!Puerto de Santa Maria is a lovely little town, great beaches and the boys would be safe to go out on their own.The castle there is supposed where Christopher Columbus stayed while waiting for approval/funds from the queen. As parents you would be able to go on a tour of the sherry places.

Granada should get 2 nights. Make sure to see some Gypsy flamenco in one of the caves in barrio Sacromonte at night and stop by the plaza san Nicolas around sunset for magical views of the Alhambra. Can you spend a night in Malaga and one in Cadiz? As much as I don't like the costa del Sol Malaga itself is a great city with a lot of character and the Alcazaba is a great sight. Madrid can be anywhere from 2 nights to 5 nights if you love art museums.

I used to take student groups to Spain for many years and one of the many things they rwally enjoyed was "free time". I had to make sure they had the name of the hotel and a map with them at all times. As mentioned Puerto de Santa Maria is one of the places they really enjoyed.
La Granja is beautiful little place outside of Segovia often forgotten or not known by tourists visiting Segovia. It's an easy bus ride -15 minutes from Segovia. They enjoyed walking around the landscaped and forest grounds of the palace and exploring the town on their own.
Another similar experience is the town of Tordesillas. It is here that the Treaty of Tordesillas was signed-great exhibit and they were fascinated by the story of Juana la Loca and the tour of the convent where she stayed for so many years. The Plaza Mayor is also unique.
Once again ,teenagers really enjoy the idea of being able to wander off by themselves and survive!
Just suggestions-not only for teenagers!
