Spain Starwood Hotels Recommendations?

Going to Spain next year for two weeks and want to use our Starwood points. Would love feedback from anyone who has recently stayed at:

Barcelona: Le Meridien
Madrid: Westin Palace
Seville: Alfonso XIII
Valencia: Westin Valencia
San Sebastian: Maria Cristina?

If you're going to use our points, then I would suggest you use them at the Maria Cristina or the Westin Palace. The Maria Cristina needs some renovation as does the Westin Palace, but both are well located in their respective cities.

If you really want to use your points on something nice, you may want to consider the new Marqués de Riscal Hotel & Spa in Elciego (Rioja Alava), the Frank Gehry project that opened last month. It's quite the treat.

We spent three nights at the Alfonso in Seville in July.

It is very well-located (within easy walking distance) of the major sites such as the cathedral and the Alcazar.

We were concerned re one TripAdvisor review which spoke of less-than-adequate air conditioning. This was a non-issue as the A/C was more than powerful enough despite the 100-degree temps.

The pool was a nice addition.

We got a rate which included the buffet breakfast and it was extensive.

The interior of the hotel makes you think that Norma Desmond from "Sunset Boulevard" herself will soon be sweeping down the staircase for dinner (when you get to Seville you'll see a lot of architecture which in the US might be called "Spanish Colonial."

Our room was decorated in an over-the-top style: coffered ceiling, canopy bed, marble floors, colored tiles in the bathroom which was good-sized; fabric walls.

We do not regret staying at this hotel despite NUMEROUS admonitions on this board about the "requirement" to stay in the Barrio Santa Cruz.

I've never been inside of the Alfonso XIII, but it has always been a top luxury one in Spain and has a beautiful location in Seville.
The Westin Valencia also has a good location. It's an old building modernised recently to be the hotel so everything it's brand new and contemporary looking. A friend of mine was there recently and raved about it.

I'd take weather into consideration. the Alphonso is superb but Sevilla in August is not a good deal.

Stayed at Alfonso last year, lovely property - full of character.

Love San Sebastian, so would suggest Maria Cristina on location alone.

Of course it depends on the time of year - summer is perfect in the North, and Spring/Autumn preferable for the South.
