Hi all! I am going to spain late September for 3 weeks. We are going to madrid, Seville, Granada, San Sebastián, Barcelona and Majorca. I am also looking at Malaga for a day to do a kayaking tour near there and I am looking for some more ideas like this in any areas that do not revolve around the historic architecture! I have seen the cathedral beach on far west spain but unfortunately we don't have enough time to get there. Anybody have any places to see like this though???

All within 3 weeks? Kind of pushing it I would think. September is harvest season throughout Spain, so there are a lot of festivals to consider, but I would assume, by your post, that you are not much interested in the cultural aspect of Spain, just the outdoors adventure.

I agree with Robert -- that's a LOT for 3 weeks!

Any good guide book should let you see that there is MUCH more to Spain than architecture. You might want to look at the Rough Guide and Lonely Planet.

I think you can do this trip in 3 wks. SS is sort of out of the loop, and you may want to drop it for that reason. Hey, I can understand your remark about architecture. I personally choke on Gaudi. His stuff is something from my youth. But, I suppose if people here are not familiar with it, they should have a look if only to round out their knowledge. It is a matter of aesthetics. Beyond Gaudi, I do enjoy architecture.

So you aren't interested in Moorish architecture and would that include La Mezquita in Cordoba and the Alhambra in Granada? What a shame. Well, you'll no doubt enjoy tapas and wine.

Come on, kimhe, tell more about flamenco locales. That would be a must for me.

Thanks all so far. Please don't get me wrong, I am looking forward to the Alhambra, the museums in Madrid, the various architecture etc in Barcelona, and the cathedral in Majorca. But I am not wanting to spend my entire holiday doing the countless other historical sites despite their beauty.

Thank you for the recommendations on the sea kayaking in Malaga, the flamenco in Seville (any suggestions for the best place to go?), and for the San Juan de gaztelugatxe near San Sebastián. These are the kinds of things I'm looking to fill in my time when not in a museum or at a religious site!

For flamenco in Sevilla, I recommend intimate Casa de la Memoria or Casa del Flamenco. Only top artists perform in these two small venues. No Food, no drink, only flamenco. A great intro to this beautiful and powerful art.
