Spain in August

Which coast of Spain would be good in August.... Atlantic or Mediterranean? Is it too hot in the south in August? We are traveling as a family, and would like a place for kiteboarding. We need wind, but I still want to enjoy relaxing time on beach, and some pretty sights to see.

yes, it gets very hot in the south.

your best bet might be the Costa Verde in Asturias on the northern coast for more moderate temps and not the craziness of southern beaches. check out Santander

Really, really, really think hard about this before you commit to Spain in August. Sevilla, for example, is nicknamed the "saucepan" of Europe. Don't do it!

Kiteboarding is key in the south, but again, too hot. Go north or try southern Portugal (Lagos et al).

The northern coast (Cantabrian sea) would be your best bet. However, it's peak, peak season there as many Spaniards take their August vacation there. I love Santander, I have been there in late July /early August and weather has been beautiful.

In the south the high temps often reach more than 100 degrees during the day - and many places do NOT have AC.. The NW coast is the only place with a reasonable climate (this is where all the Spaniards that can afford it go on vacation.)
