Spain & Portugal in April

Can anyone tell me what the weather will be like in mid April for 3 weeks in Spain & Portugal? I was thinking of Barcelona, Madrid, and Lisbon, and the Algarve, as well as stops inbetween. I would love some feedback, as doing some planning now.
Thank you.

We were in Spain and Portugal for four weeks beginning March 24 this year so that includes most of the period that you are considering.

We traveled directly to Toledo, then Granada, then to the coast for several days moving eastward into Portugal. This part of the trip included the days until April 12. During all this time we enjoyed beautiful, sunny days with many people on the beaches. Unprepared for the warm weather, we were looking for additional summer clothes.

From April 13 through April 22 we were traveling Lisbon west to Segovia. During this time it was quite chilly and we had rain off and on every day. We were learning the value of Gortex and lots of layering. In Segovia, the locals were wearing winter coats and one day we had sleet. As we departed Segovia the local highway people had snowplows positioned on the motorway awaiting a more serious storm.

Happily, we were traveling south to Madrid, our last stop. We arrived there April 23 for a couple of days of beautiful spring sunshine.

We did not go to Barcelona. We had a great trip but it was not an easy one to prepare for. The advantage was that being so early in the season we had no trouble finding lodging. We had prebooked all our stops (twelve of them.) We got all our first choices, and when we arrived, none of them were full. We booked the Alhambra early with no difficulty using the website. Happy travels.

We were in those areas last April/May and overall had great weather, no extremes. Had some cool days with light rain and also lots of sun along the coast. A fleece and light rain jacket should do it. At the beach it was sandels and shorts/skirt weather. Have fun!

I just re-read my earlier post. I'm sorry. East should by west and west should be east. It would have been simpler to say we began from Toledo and went clock-wise.

We were in Madrid from April 10-15th and it was typical spring weather - cool in the morning, warmer in the afternoon and there was occasional rain, but nothing that wiped out an entire day. We wore layers and adjusted accordingly.

We moved to Barcelona from April 15th-19th. It was a little warmer, but it was also wetter, but still mild when it was dry. Definitely take an umbrella or at least a waterproof jacket to be safe.
