Spain

I am planning to arrive in Spain approx. 21st Sept. from Morocco. We will have 12 days to explore before flying out of Barcelona. Thought maybe flying out of Marrakesh to Madrid, spend a couple of nights there- catch a train down and spend about a week exploring the Andalusia area (by car) , making our way ( by train ?????) to Barcelona for a couple of days before leaving. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

These are very broad questions. If you go to the box above titled "View by Country" and click on Spain, you will previous answers on these very questions.

Sounds good to me. Can you fly Marrakesh to Seville or Malaga?

Personally I think 12 days is a bit rushed for Madrid, Barcelona & Andalucia. You mention a couple of days for Barcelona and this would be very rushed. If this is part of a larger trip you definately may want to slow it down a little.

That said if you really had to do all this in 12 days I'd stick with just Granada & Sevilla for Andalucia. I'd budget 3-4 days each for Madrid, Barcelona & Sevilla (not really enough time for day trips but enough to see the cities) and 2 nights in Granada.

We have been to Andalusia twice - once for 10 days and once for 12 - and still have a lot to see.

I can;t imagine trying to see Madrid and Barcelona in the same time. Our second trip we did also do Madrid - but the whole trip was 20 days - and we just didn;t have time for Barcelona.

If you can fly into Málaga or Sevilla, you could have a great journey starting in either Málaga or Sevilla, using the high speed AVE train for comfortable and very fast travel between great and very different cities.

I would have spent three days in Málaga/Sevilla (two of my absolute favourite cities) and go on to Córdoba - once the capital of al-Andalus and the most advanced city in the western world - with the fabulous Mezquita etc. for a couple of days. Some 45-55 mins by train from Sevilla or Málaga respectively. From Córdoba to wonderful Madrid in 1h 40 mins. I would have spent some three days here before taking the AVE train to sophisticated Barcelona (2h 30 mins) for the last days of what could be a great trip through very different parts of a fascinatingly diverse country.

When I travel by the AVE train, I try to arrange for lunch in one city and dinner in the next, would make your travel days almost seamless.

Sevilla: http://www.andalucia.com/cities/sevilla.htm

You save more than 50 % when you buy your AVE train tickets in advance at renfe.com. About the AVE system: http://www.renfe.com/EN/viajeros/ave/index.html

Thank you so much for the informative comments and suggestions. Yes, it is part of a bigger trip and unfortunately we can only do what we can with the time we have. I know it doesn't do a place justice if it is rushed but I believe better to see a little than nothing at all. Thanks for the links.
