Positano - much smaller & more picturesque than Sorrento. If you can afford it - I would recommend the San Pietro.

I lived south of Naples and north of Sorrento for 2 years. We loved both places, but Positano has our hearts. Yes, the San Pietro is great, so is the Le Sirenuse, but our favorite is cheaper... Covo dei Saraceni. We just really love this place. Not as posh. But great location. We stayed there again in May of this year. We took our 20 someting children and one wife and one significant other. (soon to be husband ??) They all loved it. The buffet breakfast was served in a room with real bogenvilla inside the dining room with a view of the ocean. All rooms have balconies. Great place. Have a great time

Positano! It's a beautiful area to be. Take a day trip and visit Ravello. There's one of the most breath-taking panoramic views from the city.

Sorrento or Positano, the eternal question. I'll bet there are more posts with this title than any other. (Not a criticism, just an observation.)

I love them both. Many posters complain of how "touristy" Sorrento is, but to me it felt more like a real Italian city than Positano, which is really all about tourism. By that I mean everything in Positano has to do with people coming there to see the beautiful scenery and staying in hotels and dining in restaurants. But I love them both.
