I posted my itinerary before and thanks to all who responded. I'm thinking of spending a few days in Sorrento second to last week of November, mostly as a base to see Pompeii, the Herculaneum, and Mt Vesuvius but also as a city break since the rest of my stay will be in Rome. <BR><BR>My questions:<BR>1) I won't have a car while I'm there and I guess Sorrento is largely a resort town. I was wondering if I'll be able to get around by train or bus at that time of year. I've sent some inquiries as well but I thought I'd ask all you knowledgable folks. My alternative would be to stay in Naples.<BR><BR>2) My itinerary puts most of my stay in Sorrento on the weekend. Will that limit my mobility even more? <BR><BR>3) Any recommendations for fun stuff to do in the evening? I'm not generally into bars and clubs but I'm all about new experiences.

Vita,<BR><BR>We have done the Amalfi coast in late November.<BR><BR>You will not have any public transportation difficulties getting to Herculaneum, Pompeii or Mt. Vesuvius from Sorrento. <BR><BR> Also, the hydrofoil to Capri continues to run at that time of year; however, the "Blue Grotto" is not open in November. If the seas get too rough, the hydrofoil service will be cancelled and then only the car ferries will continue to run to the island from Naples.<BR><BR>You will also have the option of taking the SITA bus from Sorrento south along the gorgeous Amalfi coast road.<BR><BR>As to "fun" things to do in the evening,<BR>we found dinner and window shopping the most "happening" activity at that time of year in Sorrento, Capri and Amalfi.<BR><BR>Check with the Amalfi tourist office for the date in November for the Feastday of St. Andrew. The town of Amalfi has a parade, food and craft stands, and booming fireworks along the shore that last until the wee hours of the morning.

There is a good chance that the hydrofoil to Capri will not be running due to rough seas. It happened to us at that time of the year. There's also the likelihood of rain in November. The wet weather, however, didn't stop us from enjoying Pompeii.
