Sorrento Hotel

My husband and I are doing a 3 week trip Sept-Oct. We see Rome, Venice, various towns in Tuscany. We also want to see Pompei.

The plan is to train from Florence to Sorrento, thinking that Sorrento would be a good place to overnight for 2-3 nights.

Does anyone have hotel recommendations <$150 US per night.

Should we plan 2 or 3 nights? We head to Rome after for 3 nights prior to our departure.

We will not have a car.

Other 'must-see' recommendations appreciated.

We stayed at the Ambasciatori in Sorrento in April and it was a lovely hotel overlooking the bay, very nice accommodations, and wonderful food. Am not sure how much it was per night because we were on a tour and it was all included. You might check out their website at www.ambasciatorisorrento.com
I would plan at least two nights and three would probably be better. Pompeii was definitely worth the visit. Have a great time!

I liked Sorrento and found it convenient for traveling to Pompeii, AC, and Capri. I'd recommend 3 days there. The town is small but nice to walk around and there are lots of shops.

I stayed in Hotel City the last time. It's right by the train station and about 2-3 short blocks from the main square. The rooms are 115 Euro/night for a double (a bit more than your budget but Sorrento is expensive). The room was large but spartan. The breakfast wasn't very good so we went elsewhere after the first morning. But perhaps they've improved the breakfast.

Is there a train that goes from Florence to Sorrento or do you have to connect in Rome and Naples?

We stayed at the Hotel del Corso in 2005 before the most recent drop in the dollar. It was a pleasant hotel with clean rooms of decent size. It has a nice breakfast room overlooking the street and it's a few steps from the main square, the Piazza Tasso.
You may want to check it out, but I fear that it is now too expensive.

If a B&B is enough, I suggest CASA ASTARITA, along the main street of Sorrento.

Vincenzo - your recommendation looks good and convenient for Sorrento shops and restaurants. I'm making a note of this B&B.

Thanks everyone. I booked 2 nights at Casa Astarita, requesting a quiet room. I read reviews that the rooms opening on to the main street get a lot of the Disco noise.
