Unfortunately that Visa offer is not valid for my travel dates.

I will probably try calling the hotel chain, but often they are not supposed to "offer" details of a promotion. But since it is something that I was originally offered, perhaps they'll help me out.

Are you sure it was Sofitel? I have a Mercure Summer Pass good for up to 50% off all Mercure chain hotels, good for June 25-August 31. Could that be it?

St. Cirq, how does that pass work? I have seen heavily discounted "Internet rates" and "Instant Purchase" rates on the Accor web site. Is the 50% off taken from the rack rate or from those special rates?

StCirq, I'm pretty sure it was Sofitel because I put the information aside specifically for use for reservations at the Montreal and/or Philadelphia Sofitels.
(yes, I know this is the Europe board, but since Sofitel is a European chain, I assumed more people here would be familiar with their loyalty programs. It's possible, I suppose, that it was a local, North American, promotion, but all the materials were mailed from France, and I know there was mention of the various Accor brands and global locations.)

I did actually find the correspondence I was looking for and I even had the correct code! Turns out you couldn't check the rates on the Sofitel website anyway, so I called and when the agent found the rate, it was not lower than other rates that were available on the website. I had him check for other promotions and he found one a bit lower still.
