Wow, this thread is almost 3 years old and I can't believe I missed it. I come from a southern town where no one went by their real names, just their nicknames. This is one of mine and surprisingly enough, it's not short for Louise.

at work I am Ann. My DH, my close friends and my travel buddy all call me Annie. It is my name when I am having fun!! I am a Mom, but being an Aunt is a FUN role...spoiling w/o discipline. And the English nerd in me likes alliteration.

While growing up in the American south I was the "wee one" in a family of four girls. For many years I was called "Wee one" or plain "Wee," and eventually, thankfully, it got expanded to Weezie. When I went away to college in the north I went by my real name. Then, for a while, I was called two different names north and south of the Mason Dixon. Juliet asked, "What's in a name...?" My answer: lots.

When we lived in Rome we used to spend every September fishing the Gacka River in Croatia. The peasants would often come up to us and after asking how many children we had they'd say,"ima riba" and point up stream or down and spread their hands far apart. This indicates the size of the fish that they said was there. SO when we returned to the states and began life as a consultant I created the Name imariba for my business. Since I worked in Fisheries all my life until I became a photographer, I figured that imariba was appropriate. At least its better than nemariba, which means there are no fish.

When I moved to Spain, people pronounced my name "Cly-EE-ray" because that is how it is spelled. It is common to put an article before a name, so everyone called me "la claire." I liked that, so it was my e-mail address in college and when I came here, it was what I came up with. I do have another one that I would like to use, though. . .

Oh Weezie, you do bring back memories!
I remember all of my friends and my parents calling a young man in the neighborhood Pappy. I was a young adult before I ever knew his real name was David lol..
Wee , cute

I've always had an obsession with Venice. Long story short, I'm finally getting to Venice (and Paris and Rome!) next Feb/March, which is my 30th birthday. A present to myself and a way to make a splash and not get depressed (everyone keeps warning me that it will happen!)
I found this fab site just as I made the decision to go. 'Venice' was taken, so I tried 'Venetian'. The 30 is self evident. LOL - I never expected to be advertising my age so much though!

Wren was what my mom called me from time to time growing up! I added my first initial.
K-wren = Karen
Hi Parrotmom if you are still with us - We have a male eclectus parrot - bright green with red underwings and teal blue trim.
Hi pakitty - I live near Harrisburg - where are you in PA?

My childhood nickname. Being Leslie and a girl in the 60's wasn't bad enough, my dear old dad called me "Hester"! Some of my friends from childhood still call me that. My dad gave everyone a nickname. I was pretty lucky some of them were worse. I wish he was still here with me, what I wouldn't give to hear him say HESSS--TER in his special way! By the way his nickname was BIG JOJO, a name we all use today when we talk about him.

Thanks for topping Jagirl.
As I scrolled up reading all the posts I came across mine, dated 6/5/2005. I smiled warmly, as last year was the softball team's last year (you'll get it if you read it). Each year, they always said, "This is our last year" but last year really was the last season.
Here's to you, guys!
I hope I honor your name!

i never thought i would end up posting here for years, i pretty much registered to make a single comment on something. needless to say, i gave little thought to my screen name. just a love of walking around cities, mountains, beaches, etc.
for me, there is no better day than to wake up put on a pair of shoes and just walk wherever you want to go.
i have another chosen in case i ever need it...
