My first French class was in 7th grade. Monsieur Kier told us we each had to choose a French name for ourselves. Colette was what I chose...and I continued to be Colette in grades 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and also throughout my freshman, sophomore and junior years of French in college. NINE years of French and I STILL can't speak the language!!!

In Gilbert and Sullivan's "Ruddigore," my favorite G&S, Mad Margaret comes up with the city name "Basingstoke...a word that teems with hidden meaning" to calm her down and center from her wild thoughts.
Desmond: "If you don't Basingstoke at once, I shall be seriously angry."
Mad M: " Basingstoke it is!

I have always loved that scene.

During the plannng of my first trip to Europe with my daughter, I had to setup a email account. All names I chose were taken -- even my real name, so being as we were two gals going to Europe I chose Eurogals and now all my friends know me by that name and even though I have moved and have a new account I still keep Eurogals as my name.

Travelbug is obviously b/c I like to travel, but the 13 is a lucky number in my family. My grandmother has 13 grandchildren, she was married on the 13th, her house number was 13, and it just stuck with my whole family. Many good things have happened with the number 13 for me.

This is a fabulous thread!

My screen name is less than creative: first three letters of my last name and the city where I currently live; however, perhaps when we are no longer expats, this name will fondly bring to mind the first place we ever lived abroad.

I logged on as GeorgeW in respect for America's Founding Father, George Washington. I gather many on this site believe my screen name is in honor of the current resident of George Washington's office. However, I did not vote for Dubya or, to be honest, his opponents either.

TravelPro - I am a travel professional. Used to be a travel agent and now I work in hotel automation. Odds are if you have ever booked a hotel, it has touched our system.
I teach hotels how to better market their properties using the existing technology.
It is a GREAT, FUN job!!!

Gypsy is my dog. Gypsygirl is what I call her when we run together. Using her name will always remind me to make sure that the places I travel to are dog-friendly. Or at least remind me not to be gone too long.

Great thread that I had never seen before.

Mine is pronounced "dee-jay", my husband's and my initials from our first names. I have had this screen name for years since it's usually never taken by anyone else due to the unusal spelling.

I am obsessed with curious george and all things curious. Curious George accompanies me on my travels (keep an onging photo journal of places George has been). (unfortunately, in my haste when I signed up here I misspelled curious - just another oddity, I guess!

You might assume I chose mine because of the famous painting in Paris, but it was actually the name of a beloved pet cat of mine. I was learning Spanish at the time and found out Mona means "cute". So that's what I named her. I later learned the real meaning is "monkey" and I was crushed. We had many good years together and now I use the name Monalisa for everything.
