in 11 days because you only live once, we're young and can travel to these places again, blah, blah, blah. Anyway, we are using a travel agent for our air and rail travel but are going to book our hotels/B & B's ourselves. I have found a lot of reviews for B & B's in London and Paris but hardly any for Rome. Can anyone make any not too expensive suggestions?

you are very ambitious. i would personally leave out london. in rome try the hotel des artistes. it is a very good budget hotel that has breakfast if you want it or 2e for a wonderful cappucino. they have a web site and offer in-suite or shared bathrooms. the rooftop garden is great for late and early evening wine drinking.

If this is your first trip, I suggest you do London and Paris.

In any case I urge you to do no more than 2 of the 3.

I too would leave out one (for me Rome would be the one to drop). 11 days does sound like a long time - but with the travel time getting to Europe and between the cities, finding you bearings in each city, packing and unpacking, you will really be lucky to have 8 full days for sightseeing.

But if your heart is set on doing all three - be sure to do an open jaw ticket so you don't waste even more time getting back to the first city to fly home . . .

There are numerous low cost places for rome on eurocheapo.com and several of them have B&B right in their names.

Fly volareweb.com Paris to Italy. Make yourself get out of these big cities, even if it is only for eight hours, at least once. Chartres or Orvieto would work.

I have done that three city jump for the same reasons you are. I love to explore but quickly changing from one culture and language to another was not exciting, it was difficult. This trip I am going longer and staying in one country.

Do yourself a favor and just do two of the three. Why suffer all the transit time and packing and unpacking?

I'd save Rome for later. Like you said, you are young and can travel again.

And I say if this is what you want to do then GO FOR IT. Just because
1)you are apparently more ambitious than some other people (1st post)
2)you are POSSIBLY taking your first trip and apparently there is some "rule" somewhere about only doing a couple of cities on your first trip (2nd post)
3)you are apparently not going to be able to handle the travel time, getting your bearings, handle all the packing and unpacking {I guess this person knows exactly what you are taking] (3rd post)
4)you will obviously have major trouble in "jumping from one culture to another" (5th post)
5)you will "suffer" from all that "transit time" (apparently they already know what mode of travel you will use) and all that packing and unpacking

Now..if you believe in this and I have no doubt all these people are trying to be helpful..but they are obviously basing their objections on their own experiences or those of someone they know and none of them are you.

Cave in to the wimps or be adventurous...it's up to you!

Take the advice of the last poster at your own peril. He eagerly discounts sound advice from smart people who are not wimps but just experienced travelers who have "been there and done that" many times before.

You can have a grand adventure without wearing yourself out and making everything turn into a blur.

I don't choose to agree with any given person here on this board.

But I think you can have a perfectly fine trip to these places in 11 days.

Start with www.b-b.rm.it, the B&B Association of rome. They have hundreds of listings by area, so you'll have to figure out where inthe city you want to stay first ...
