I'm getting something German next.

German, heavy, non-skiddy and winterproof.

just before last year's snow, we bought a 4x4 subaru [new to us] for a very good price.

a week later it would have cost twice as much as it did.

i di like the electrially-heated seats on a cold morning.

My German, not very light, non-skiddy and fairly winterproof Eos has had a bad couple of days. We've now got a couple of inches of snow lying- maybe 3. I live up a private (ie untreated) tarmacced track, and the house is down a slope below the road. I normally park in the L-shaped driveway and my husband on the track.

I got home after the snow on Friday night and, in a foolhardy moment decided, instead of parking on the track, to reverse down onto the driveway (that helps me build up momentum to reach escape velocity).

20 horrible minutes later, I had got stuck, bumped my way through 180 degrees, driven back out on to the main road, turned and come in again, and in desperation, driven into the driveway head first.

Yesterday I took half an hour to get stuck, bumped my way through 180 degrees- destroying great lump of what I laughingly call lawn- nearly burnt out the clutch cable and STILL couldn't get out. Every time I got to the 90 degree bend I slid so far forward I lost the big mo.

The judicious application of rock salt meant I DID get out this morning. That 25 yard drive is probably the only thing I really hate about snow.

Tomorrow I have to drive 4 hours to the extreme west to go to a funeral. Through a big patch of landscape the Met Office are advising against driving through. Then we have to come back again

More snow is forecast. Some here. Lots there

Well I am sick of it now. It was nice for about 30 seconds, but please, can the snow go away now. Doesn't it realise people have to get out and buy stuff for Chrostmas?
Walked the dogs this afternoon in the woods, and risked life and limb driving there too. The Kangoo is not good in snow, even with winter tyres on it.
It started snowing yet again while I was out, having snowed all night and morning, and I looked like a snowman by the time I got back to the car.
One dog, despite me trimming her legs ended up with so many snowballs dangling from her legs she looked like someone's Christmas decorations.
At least it is warmer today - -3C. Yesterday it was -10C all day with a gale blowing too.

Good luck with your trip tomorrow Sheila. If the weather is really horrible give the funeral a miss - I am sure everyone would understand.

Sheila, if it makes you feel any better, you've just brightened my husband's day. His Mazda RX8 is terrible in the snow (over a foot of which is on the ground as well as on his car as I write). He really liked your car. After hearing your story, he is thinking it wouldn't be an improvement.

Don't scrape the snow off, Nikki, whatever you do. It is valuable extra ballast on slidely cars!

I clear the windows, lights and windscreen and leave whatever's on the bonnet to help pin it to the road. ;-)

I wish the weather would stop having some sort of bi-polar episode and sort itself out.

This morning we had the remnants of last week's snow and ice on the ground. Then it rained and washed all that away. Then it snowed riculously (the only place with more snow is Kate Moss' front room's coffee table) and now it's trying to melt again.

If I wanted to live like this I'd be a foreign.

I want my sensible English weather back (certainly before I have to drive to Poundbury on thursday).

Aha, unmasked!
I always suspected that you might be Prince Charles.
I am hoping to travel from the North Where It's Grim to London on Wednesday. Let's hope we don't get the wrong kind of snow.

I'm DONE with this snow! It took my husband over 4 hours to make his 15 minute commute home last night. At least he got out when he did -- 150 people were trapped in his office over night.

All for just a few inches on the ground. Now everything is iced over and I guess we'll just stay put till Spring. Silly.

In sunny Newcastle-upon-Tyne the only problems are people hunting parking spaces at the Metrocentre.

Nikki, tell Alan that it's not the car, it's the tyres. I got stuck again yesterday- properly- had to be pulled out of a snowdrift- and on proper forensic analysis (after all, this is really just like my old Golf, but heavier- thus should be better in snow), I worked out that the tyres are slicks. I wish I'd spotted that a week ago!!
