SNCF Tix - Visa Card Now No Good

we purchased tix for TGV and they came via email. then bought tix for Rouen-Bayeux and there was no option for email. Only pick-up at station or kiosk.

i happen to know that we will no longer have that card when we go in May. anyone have any experience trying to pick up tickets from the machine or counter when the purchasing card is no longer available??

You are supposed to put the expired card in the machine.

Yes, my experience is that if you do not have, in your possession, the card with which the tickets were originally purchased, you will not get your tickets.

kerouac-- we need to cancel the card next month.... so you are saying that if we put the card (which is no longer valid but not 'expired' by date) into the machine, it should work, since it's a match in card number??

If you have a US credit card, it will probably not work at all in any SNCF machine or kiosk. To obtain your tickets, present the same card with which the tickets were purchased at any SNCF service window or boutique. You will also need your reservation number.

Sarastro is correct. You will simply have to go to the window and talk to a person. I'd keep the old card (just for identification purposes at the window)

Since the tickets are already paid for, the card is just to identify you. That's why it doesn't matter if it has expired or not.

Rouen to Bayeux was probably on some combination of TER trains with modifiable ticket? I don't think there is an advantage with a advance ticket over a last minutes ticket.

When I have to buy a no print at home option ticket, I have been using the www.captaintrain.com. It would also be a pick up at station ticket, but the difference is that I get a 6 character booking code, and I can use one of those ubiquitous SNCF ticket machines to print out tickets using the 6 character code and my name. No credit card is needed.

Just for the record, the SNCF is currently starting to change its main line ticket machines. The new machines are gray and white; the yellow machines will disappear.

Yes, what hello, tix does equal tickets.

I use captaintrain.com as well. My French is simply awful, so it's made train tickets easier for us to buy and I like that you can access the boarding pass via smart phone.

Keep the expired card, take it with you, and show it to a human being and explain the issue. It will be fine. It WILL help if you can explain this in French. Depending on the station, the SNCF personnel may speak flawless English or next to none.

I had the same happen several years ago, but my card was stolen, then replaced with a completely different account number. Luckily, I had a photocopy of that card, and I explained that the old card was stolen, but it matched my new card and Passport and I was able to retrieve my tickets. I didn't like that process at all, so I checked into Captatin Train.

I have tickets for four travelers on the Paris/Caen, Caen/Rouen, Rouen/Paris and Paris/London/Paris all on my phone from Captain train. Three of the trips the tickets are e-tickets and everything is both on my phone and hard copy printed as a back-up (along with the Captain train e-mails) but the Caen/Rouen trip was not available with a print ticket option, but it did give me the 6 digit code, along with specific direction on how to retrieve the tickets, along with a separate link to determine, in advance, whether the station will have both machines or counter assistance.

I think the OP will be fine with either the old card or a photocopy of it with the new card and passport.

thanks for all of above. will bring a photocopy with explanation written in french on back (for me to read.)

took a quick look at captaintrain but got turned off because it wanted my info before it would search or quote prices.
