small walk about town between shannon & cliffs

I am a great fan of Ennistymon, a small town about 10 minutes from the cliffs. I always atart and finish my Ireland trips there! Ennistymon, famous for its traditional shop fronts, is still a working town rather than a tourist mecca but can provide the traveler with many amenities..authentic pubs, restaurants, etc. It is about 11/2 miles from the seafront at Lahinch. There is a lovely short walk from the main street along the banks of the river Cullenagh ending at the Falls Hotel (once the manor house of the area)..great glass fronted pub and dining
room overlooking the river and the falls.
I stay in town at the Station House B&B.
The rooms and the bath are very spacious, always hot water and central heat if needed TV and an armchair... Great breakfast and warm and welcoming hostess, Kathleen Cahill. ITB approved and she takes credit cards. (35euro per person) Just park your car and enjoy the area.
Since it is so reasonable I often reserve with Kathleen for the night I fly. Early arrival at shannon and I can make Kathleen in time for breakfast and my room is ready for me!

Ennistymon is a nice little town for walking about. I'd never seen a falls right in the middle of town before!
Lahinch is also a pretty town and is on the water. I think you'd enjoy either of these places.

I like Ennistymon (be sure to stop at John Daly's 'Matchmaker's Pub') and Lahinch - Lahinch is probably better for shopping. But why not Ennis? It's not 200 metres from the Cathedral up to the O'Connell monument (past the Old Ground hotel, Dunnes hypermatket and Brogan's restaurant), then another 150 metres down Abbey Street (past Beleek's) to the ruins of the old Abbey and the bridge over the river Fergus. The Ireland Tourist Office is in the old Convent close to the monument and across from the Temple Gate hotel. What I describe is just the center of Ennis but it's very walkable.
Ennis has a lot more historical stuff than Lahinch or Ennistymon.
As an aside: there's a cafeteria in Dunne's where you can get a cup of tea or coffee (or whatever). If you come in off O'Connell Street it's on your right as you enter the store.
