SLOANE SQUARE MOAT HOTEL

Has anyone stayed or heard anything about this hotel? The only thing I know about this hotel is that its down the street from the hotel where we like to stay which is totally booked. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I think it's called Moat House, but no, I don't know anything about it except that it's a chain that some people like.

I checked tripadvisor.com and this is one of the four comments:

London: Sloane Square Moat House: "Great Location but Worn"

The location is great and we got a good rate. Not only is the Square a fun place, the Underground stop is only a short block away. The rooms are small and very worn out - peeling wallpaper and a wall mounted TV that is right near the door making it an obstacle course. The halls are narrow with steps that would be difficult for a disabled person. The restaurant is a joke and even if the breakfast is included, avoid it. The bathroom is a good size, but there is no ventilation at all, ok for 1 person, but for 2 unpleasant. Not someplace you'd want to spend a lof of time in, but easy access to all of London.

Hi Jeffy - I've stayed at the Moat House a few times, most recently this past September (2003). The secret is that you need one of the 'Crown Rooms' - they are far superior to the ordinary rooms, and frequently offered at a good rate, especially if you book over the internet (they're often listed on discount sites) or last-minute. It's true, as the review Cowboyz posted said, that this hotel is not good for anyone who has mobility problems, as the lift is tiny and the corridors are long and narrow (this isn't unusual for older, independent hotels in London).

I disagree completely about the restaurant- it was perfectly decent and quite packed most of the time, and not just with people staying at the hotel. I wonder if that reviewer is confused or visited long ago? Anyway, if you don't like the food, there's plenty of other choices nearby.

The rooms I've stayed in (always Crown) are easily large enough for two people, and always very comfortable and clean. And you know the location's good, as you usually stay nearby. Certainly, this isn't a five-star luxury high-rise, but for London, it's a good and reasonably affordable option.

Moat House is the name of the chain...and Sloane Square is one of their nicer properties. EXCELLENT location ..and as someone said if you get a Crown room, you will be very happy. I don;t know about their restaurant..there are so many nearby to choose from, I certainly wouldn't let that be a deciding factor!

Thanks everyone for your replies. Although I would love to give it a try because the price is right my sister is scared off by some of the reviews.
