3 and 4 are in the best locations. 1 is in the worst because it's really only close to Montjuic and the Raval (which can be dicey in areas at night) and not close to Placa Catalunya or the Barri Gotic.
Don't like the location of 2, it's further than 3 but about the same size and similar area, so just take 3 over 2. Not necessarily thrilled with the location of 3 either (would want something closer to the Passeig de Gracia) but it's not awful.
#4 is the smallest - about 425 square feet. A square meter is about 10.6 square feet. It is closest to the most attractions although still a bit away from the Passeig de Gracia and the Barri Gotic.
Why have you only looked at Habitat? Is Barcelona your last destination in the Euro-zone? If so, and if Habitat demands a cash deposit (which it does for many apartments), then consider another company because unless you live in a Euro country, you won't want a pile of Euro cash to have to change at the airport and take a 10% haircut on the exchange rate.
We stayed at Portal de Angel 1 here: http://barcelonastuff.com/. The location was far better than any of the apartments you suggested and the apartment was on a small quiet side street with resident key-access only. It is less than five minutes' walk from Placa Catalunya, which is the heart of the city, and right across the street from a small grocery store where you can get all your necessaries. They also took the deposit by credit card so I didn't have to change a wad of Euros back to dollars at the airport.

Thanks BigRuss....you just made my life much simpler!I will probably end up booking No.3.....did try Barcelonastuff....somehow what is available for my dates (May 23-28)is atleast 50% more expensive than this partment ( I am paying almost Euro 677 for No.3 against Euro 960 for any of the Portal de Andel ones
As for deposit in Euros: It's OK with us as we go to Madrid for 4 days after Barcelona....will be able to use it!
Thanks again for the help....very kind of you

Good. We did the opposite so Barcelona was our last stop in Eurotopia. You can easily walk from the Arc de Triomf through the Born to the Port Vell area even with a hobbit. And the Metro will get you anywhere you really want to go (other than Parc Guell - that's for bus or cab) fairly quickly.

ShilpiC - Can I ask you how much the apartments you are looking at are running in $USD? My husband and I will be in Barcelona mid-May and need an apartment for 4 nights. We too have young kids (ages 3 and 1) and want to be within walking distance to sights and metro stop, but don't want to spend a fortune. Thanks!
