Sleeping in the 9th - can it be done?

I need to find reasonably priced accommodations in Paris near Place de Clichy (75009), either within walking distance or a short metro stop away. I need two rooms (1 twin & 1 double) for 6 nights. All the hotels in the area have just awful comments about them on Trip Advisor. I was thinking that an apartment would be feasible too. Does anyone have any suggestions? Oh, & I need it beginning Jan 1.
Thanks.

It might help us to know why you must stay in the 9th. With the Metro and bus system being probably one of the best and most widespread in Europe, you can easily get around Paris. Also, many people here recommend renting an appartment as a good alternative.

A popular site is VRBO

I've stayed in the 9th several times, there are plenty of decent hotels there. Are you sure you've read reviews on every single hotel in the 9th? Because I recall reading several on tripadvisor that had good reviews, and I didn't read that many, so I know they don't all have awful comments. I've stayed at the Langlois which has excellent reviews on there, for one -- I've also stayed at Les Trois Poussins which has decent reviews, as I recall. I did like the Langlois better. I know there are quite a few hotels around the Grands Boulevards which have good reviews.

I wil admit the two hotels I stayed t are not wihtin one metro stop of Clichy, and perhaps you can rethink that criteria as that may be your problem. They are certainly within walking distance, if you want, and are within a few metro stops away. I think there are plenty of good choices if you relax the criteria of being within one metro stop of Clichy. What's the reason for that?

The Hotel Tryp Blanche Fontaine is within one stop of Clichy and seems to have okay reviews. So is the Relais Montmartre (now it is a bit north of Blanche metro in the 18th arr. but very near Clichy). The 4* Terrass hotel is very near there, also, in the 18th and I wouldn't call those reviews awful. Maybe those aren't your idea of reasonable costs, don't know. Costs would be cheaper beginning around second week in January, perhaps.

I know someone recently on here liked an apt. they had right near place de Clichy, but don't recall the size of it or the name, actually. You might find that in a search using the right words. It's rather late to be planning apt. stays for use in just a couple weeks, though.

Maybe you should say what you considerable reasonable, and trying to get a room beginning Jan 1st may be a problem, also, as there may not be a lot of vacancies that exact day due to the holidays.

I can't see how it will help to know why I want to stay there. It's because we are visiting people who live near there & would like to be as close as possible, especially as we may be there late at night after the metro stops running. Does that help?

I would still like some feedback from people who have stayed at places in that general area because the comments about all the places I can locate are so bad.
Thanks for anyone who can help with my actual question.

We stayed in an apartment in the 18th, within walking distance of the Clichy Metro stop (7-10 minute walk). The apartment was fantastic and the agency was super.
You might want to check out the setup to see if the sleeping arrangements would suit. It does sleep 5.

Damremont was the apartment.
Good luck.

Here is a link to my blog where I describe the apartment

http://tinyurl.com/2ua79j

At the bottom of that page, there is a "next journal" link which will lead you to my description of the area around the apartment.

The reason for my question was simple. Not knowing how often you have been to Paris, it was to gather more facts to help others here provide an answer that better suits your needs.

It is not uncommon for people going for the fist time to have in their mind that they must stay in a certain area because someone told them so, or they saw something on TV, or they don't realize the size of Paris, or how the Metro/RER system works, etc.Since this does not apply to you...

Good luck with the search.

Thanks for the names of hotels. Unfortunately they are beyond the budget of the travelers who are all students. It is certainly late to be looking for accommodations but this is when they are available & decided to go. I'm just trying to help them out. Thanks for all the suggestions.

That's why it helps if you post a price range right off the batt. I don't see where you have given any idea what they can afford other than saying "reasonably priced". It's kind of hard to help with your "actual question" when you don't give a specific budget.

Here is a Paris hotel I am considering:
http://www.parishotelmarciano.com

On HRS.de, I found a rate for 88 Euros per night including breakfast, for a double/twin room. I don't know it's available for your dates. This is about 1 km from the Place de Clichy metro, which is very reasonable walking distance, I think.

Another place you might want to consider is Le Village Hostel, about 1.7 km away from Place de Clichy metro:
http://www.villagehostel.fr/

You can get an ensuite twin room for 60 Euros including breakfast. It has pretty good reviews. Book quickly if they still have places available.

68-105 Euro / Twin

Ibis Paris Montmartre
5 rue Caulaincourt 75018

Winter Rate 67 Euro
3-nights Deal - brkf included, 61.60 Euro (see Conditions)

To correct my slight error above, the Marciano hotel price I booked was actually 80 Euros for a double room and breakfast.

Several other good places to look, where I saw good deals are:
http://www.france-hotel-online.com/
http://en.federal-hotel.com/
http://www.fastbooking.com
http://www.booking.com
http://www.venere.com
http://www.hostelworld.com

But, please post back with your price range, as that is the most important issue. And if you need to go more than one metro stop, it will be very easy in any event. Also, take the reviews with a grain or two of salt. In many cases, the stayers have expectations that are just too high for budget hotels, and in other cases, the problems are isolated and/or exaggerated.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. They ended up booking rooms at Hotel Aurore Montmartre, primarily for it's location. They didn't really give me an exact price - it was more like they knew it when they saw it. I agree with you WillTravel about expectations. You get what you pay for & it just depends on where you want to spend your money. I'll let you know how they liked it when they get back. Thanks.

This is a classic demonstration of the old adage that the more information you give up front, the less bandwidth and frustration in the long run.

Just wanted to say thank you to all the posters who offered help with my question. They stayed at Hotel Aurore Montmartre. While the rooms were very small, they weren't there to hang out in the room. It was clean & comfortable, the location was perfect & the price was right..
