In the 80's when the dollar was very strong against the franc, we splurged and stayed at the Ritz. It was soooo snooty...and it drove us crazy that we had to show ID every time we walked in the door past all the security guards...maybe someone "important" was staying there, we never did find out. But, we checked out after 2 days and stayed the remaining 2 days at La Tremoille in the same area. We did not stay at any 5 Star L for several years, but stayed at the Four Seasons when it first opened and the Meurice last year....we had wonderful stays at each of these hotels. We still laugh about our experience at the Ritz...would never stay there again! Hard to believe they are having financial difficulties with those rates!

George V is going to appeal and the rest are expected to follow. They have a month to do it. They deny any collusion. The crillon is protesting the fine because it's directed at a whole chain rather than their one hotel.

Silly of the George V to protest, because there is hard evidence they insigated the price fixing. I guess they need to try and save face.

Single room for around Euro500 is a total rip off, and I don't care how many staff they have.

They have been caught and shall need to pay the consequences. They should have been fined double!

We can't afford these places, but I am one who would stay in fancy hotels if I had the budget for it. Indeed I would.

Anyway, we were treated very well when we walked into the Georges V and asked if we were welcome, as non-guests, to wander around the lobby floor. Please, madame!

I even got a phone-side memo pad. Loved using the bathroom.
