Sicily without a car

Hello all,
We are planning to be in Sicily in November, 2024. I am trying to make our trip to Italy car-free, but we are concerned about being able to get to major sights in Sicily without one. How is train transportation and what other alternatives could we use?
Thanks for any sage words.

We spent 13 nights in Sicily in April 2022 and the whole trip was done using public transport, either trains or buses. We flew into Palermo and stayed 5 nights, found loads to do, plus day trip to Monreale. Took the train to Agrigento for an overnight and visited the Valley of the Temples.

Then two buses to Ortygia, with a change at Catania. This was the longest journey, almost 6 hours, but it all went like clockwork with junior 15-20 minutes at Catania between buses.

We stayed in Ortygia for 4 nights which was magical, lots to see in Siracusa too. Day trip to Noto. Then train to Catania for 3 nights, before flying to Naples, no car in either Naples or the Amalfi Coast.

The bus and train system is excellent and we had no problems whatsoever. No strikes, etc either, I had heard horror stories about this while planning our trip. You may want to check if there’s a more limited schedule in November though.
