Not sure what the exact dates of your trip are in March... but I don't think that's actually that great of a fare. If you go to travelocity and do a flexible search for the month, you come up with many cheaper options. You could fly out of Newark, which is really conveniant to midtown New York by train, for $203 round trip on Alitalia. For $243 you could fly British Airways. $260 Virgin. Granted, all of these cheaper fares will mostly be flights that leave and return mid-week. So, I'm guessing your flight leaves on a Thursday or Friday--- so I guess this might not be any help. But.. just in case....

Those last two quotes on Virgin and BA are both out of JFK by the way, not Newark.

Two of the last two replies to this question are now confusing to me. tudorp quotes $436, and in less than 24 hours, cheaper fares are quoted on BA - - are you saying she should book what she found? or what I found? or take the indicators from fraggle that even lower than $358 can be found? today?

How does tudorp read this?

Just thought I'd let everyone know that I booked on BA for late March out of Philly since I can get a much cheaper flight than flying into JFK from Tampa.
Thanks for all your thoughts. Now comes the fun part, planning!

Hi TP,

Keep in mind that flying home into PHL is a zoo.

Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed.

Also, if you want to change some USD into euro, the cheapest money exchange is all the way at the end of concourse C, from which you will depart.

You will save about 8% vs the ones in the front.

Have a nice visit.

I have had perfectly pleasant experiences flying through PHL.

On the flip side, prepre yourself, from the beginning for the truly UNacceptable carry-on (weight) limitations strictly enforced by BA. 5 kg - - that's right, ELEVEN pounds - - so no way you can take a rollaboard aboard.

They're not a bad airline, otherwise, in my opinion - - but it is a reason I will always try to seek another alternative carrier.

Rex,
Not that it makes a huge diff anyway but BA's website and a cust. service rep both state carry on luggage not to exceed 6kg (13 pounds).

Fares. What is the maximum you can afford or are willing to pay? Are you trying for the lowest price available? Are you seeking a price you can afford? Is the trip important or is it simply a boredom diversion? Price has little to do with the value of the transportation. Very shortly...air fares will 'sky rocket'. Fuel costs, labor, insurance and population growth will all contribute to this 'given'. Best advice..buy now, travel now. In a short time only wealthy people will be travelling.

Note to GSteed - - on a post this morning, tudorp says that she has booked...

Thanks for the correction on the carry-on weight limit. My last BA flight (ever?) was in 1999.

I've flown in/out of Philly before on BA and I like the airport and haven't had any trouble with BA in the past so I'm happy with my choices.
Thanks guys.

I have just returned from a Philly to London trip on BA. With the exception of the food issue with their caterer, the airport and the carrier were fine. Had eight days in London and Eastbourne with no rain.

Glad to hear the report. We flew BA from Philly in Feb. and had no complaints. Give us a trip report when you have time.
