I'm off to London for a few days next week for work and would like recommendations for dinner. I have one night free and thought I'd splurge on dinner. I'm staying in South Kensington. I've considered Gordon Ramsey at Claridges. Any other suggestions?

Gordon Ramsay has two London restaurants now, the other one is in Chelsea. Don't know how they compare, haven't eaten at either.

I haven't eaten at these places either but have read good things about them repeatedly:

Le Gavroche
Angela Hartnett
Petrus
Gary Rhodes' restaurant (forget name, possibly eponymous)

I didn't like GR @ Claridges when I went in Dec 2004. Try to go for the main Gordon Ramsay restaurant if you can.

You could also consider Hakkasan (kicks ass), J Sheeky (next door to the Ivy), Yauatcha (although I think its a bit overated), or Bluebird.

If you don't mind taking the train, and a taxi, how about The Waterside Inn in Bray? It is a 3-Star Michelin restaurant and inn run by Michel Roux.

The food is fantastic, the service amazing, the setting sublime, and Monsieur Roux is charming.

If you really want somewhere special, then The Fat Duck in Bray has food like nowhere else. Possibly tricky to get to without organising a car, but maybe make a day of it and explore the surroundings?

Failing that, then Gordon Ramsay, Hospital Road SW3 is the best one of his restaurants. Claridge's doesn't always get rave reviews, and certainly doesn't compare to his flagship one.

Would you consider Indian/Oriental cuisine or you want something European?

I'd still say The Fat Duck as it's a class above any other top restaurant.
