Thanks annhig. My last post I intended to mention the British man too but must have deleted the sentence before submitting

I was wrong- there was an article (buried in the back of the news section) -- bylined Berlin for some strange reason. But it is a news service feed and no mention at all that two local men were involved. And it isn't a press time issue. It was well known who they were before the paper 'went to bed' . . .

Just very weird.

<<If there is going to be security at the high speed trains, you would need it for all trains. Otherwise the terrorists would move on to easier targets, such as commuter trains. >>

I don't think so, at least such trains are not remotely as attractive a target. Terrorists generally want publicity, their actions are meaningless without out and I don't think they'd get any satisfaction if they killed someone in a small town and no one in the world knew about it. Terrorists have never tried to blow up some airplane trip between small towns, either, and I think it would be a lot easier in terms of security. In fact, small commuter trains would already be an easier target as small town train stations have no security at all, but they don't target them.

I read in the Belgium newspaper about this yesterday (Le Soir), and they already reported the suspect had some kind of S investigation in France, which is something related to terrorist ties.

From the Brit:

"What can you do? Either you sit down and die, [or] you get up and die. We’ve seen enough of these kind of attacks to know that they will kill everyone once they get started."

good to see some more quotes but it is strange that your local press wasn't reporting it at first. you can guarantee that if someone from Cornwall were involved, we'd hear about it almost before it's happened!

glad to see that a train driver gets some credit too.

Those who think suburban commuter train bombings are unlikely should remember the 191 killed and 1800 wounded in the Madrid commuter train bombing of 2004.

Christina . . . I have the actual newspaper in my hand and that article is not printed. So very late last night they must have put the article up on the website. The paper press time is also late at night - approx 10:45 PM local time and this info was available before then.

So I guess we'll get to read it tomorrow

At least a check of all bags in every trainstation. (It would create jobs too).>

And raise the cost of rail travel as well it seems! Who pays for TSA screenings in American airports - ultimately the customer I would think or the government, which in theory is us.

Now we find out all three of them grew up here and ALL their families still live here. Apparently there is going to be some sort of big celebration when they get back home.

Just leaving on TGV Lyria from Paris to Zurich. There was no security check whatsoever. There was also no security in Amsterdam when we boarded the Thalys, just days before the attack. Wonder if that will change now.

Safe travels everyone.
