"Sell forward" cell phone???

Does anyone have a cell phone that works in Europe that they'd like to "sell forward" to me? That means a dual or triband unlocked phone. And thanks to all the wonderful folks here who've provided so much info on this subject!

The concept has not caught on here as one might wish for - - why not advance it by buying when you arrive, and coming back and selling it forward yourelf?

Have a great trip...

Best wishes,

Rex

Hi, Rex. Because we go to Europe twice a year and I want to keep it. Thanks again for all your help in understanding GSM, dual/triband, etc. Still hoping someone wants to unload one!

Why don't you just wait till you arrive. Go to one of the many phone stores, buy the cheapest dual-band pre-paid phone (about 50BPs). It will come with some minutes, so you could start to use it. When you have some time, go to Oxford Street, and you'll see bunch of little phone shops with signs adertising phone unlocking. For 20BPs they will need about an hour to do it for you. From that point on, you are set for most of the world, except North America, unless you purchase a more expensive tri-band phone.

I have a SAGEM MY X-2 phone that works like a charm just about everywhere. I had it in South Africa, Singapore, Hong Kong, all over Europe. The phone at the time of purchase cost me 70BP, but that was about a year ago. I just saw the same phones for under 50BPs in London phone shops.

One more thing,

If you only travel to UK, there is really no need to get the phone un-locked. Just buy a pre-paid phone and reload minutes as needed.

Thanks for the help, but this trip is to Portugal. And next spring to Croatia. So I really need a GSM with replaceable SIM cards. eBay has a reburfished Ericcson T39 which has gotten great reviews for a bit over $50, so I'll probably go for that. Thanks again for the education!

IFor some odd reason I saw UK, not Europe. Anyway, good luck with the phone and have a great trip!

I just want to add that I purchased my Sagem phone with a replacable SIM card on Ebay. The phone with a few minutes on it and shipping came to 48 USD, which seems like a good deal.

We traveled for 10 days on one recharge and loads of calls. there was a flood in our home town and we called the US from Italy several more times than usual.
