I'm curious, what made you decide on Migennes as the starting point?

We have done two canal boat trips in Burgundy. Both were wLocaboat, one way 7 day trips, and were highly succesful
1) Nivernais: Corbigny - Joigny (you must do a side trip to Vezelay)
2)Bourgogne: Venarey les Laumes - Joigny
It is all a gorgeous part of France. Both were great, but if you asked me to chose, I'd probably go the Nivernais again. You mention that you'd prefer the opposite direction to what we chose. Six of one, but IMHO the canal starts out very pretty and 'small'at the Corbigny end and opens out as you get down towards Joigny. Sigh. Memories.
