I don't understand the question. Are you taking day trips from Bologna 4 different days? Are you leaving Bologna, spending 4 days in Tuscany and then .... what? Are you planning to stay in Bologna and hoping to "see Tuscany" from there? Maybe I'm thick, but I really have no clue what your topic means.

Well, let's see. There's Pisa and Lucca (nice town surrounded by its walls, now a walking/biking path) and the smaller towns of Pistoia and Prato. Also Fiesole, just barely north of Florence but with a great view of it. And there's the hills north of Florence and Lucca and the coast around Forte dei Marmi.
Why are you ruling out southern Tuscany? It's not that much farther. Northern Tuscany is not what people usually think of when they think of the Tuscan countryside.
