OK, francophile, I'm sending a request for availability and rates. It looks great on their website but looks pretty expensive.......

Every place I check that is recommended on this board in my price range is totally booked, including al ponte mocenigo. So I will stick.

I guess the rates are high depending on what is considered high for you personally. I can understand that. But I think it's a find and pretty soon it'll be difficult to secure reservations there. Sorry it was booked up.

We stayed in Antico Panada last June and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's only one street off San Marco and I thought it would be loud but it wasn't and it was so convenient to everything that we could stop by several times a day just to drop things off. Ask for the room with the little deck off of it if you can. We paid 185 Euro per night.

Vera, I stayed at the Hotel Bolgna once enroute from Slovenia to Milan. You're going to love it. The room I had was so comfortable and deluxe. The staff was incredibly accommodating. And the breakfast was probably the best I've ever had in Italy. Considering it's right across the street from the train station and a 10 min. train ride to Venice proper, it's a very good deal. Enjoy your trip!

We stayed at Locanda Fiorita and enjoyed it. There is no canal view, but you sit outside in the courtyard and watch the Venetians walking to work (poor things!) I checked their website and a double room with bath is $145 (w/out bath is $120). It is a small hotel near the San Stefano Piazza and about a 7 minute walk to San Marco. Check out their website to see if it fits your budget. www.locandafiorita.com
