Second guessing hotel choice in Venice
I booked Ca Bonvicini for 3 nights in Venice in June based on a recommendation on this site. We have never been to Venice so we are just going by what we are reading. I have gone to tripadvisor.com and there are just a few reviews and they are somewhat mixed. We are paying 160 Euros and it is in Santa Croce. I have emailed Locanda Orseola and some of the other more popular B and B's listed here and they are too costly or full, La Calcina, etc. I did check on Ca Gottardi's website and it is less than Ca Bonvicini and gets good reviews. I haven't checked availability yet. Any ideas??? Thanks!

Have you tried B&B Corte 1321? It used to be known as B&B Ca Barnardi. I stayed here last October and thought it was great.

The tripadvisor reviews for Ca Bonvicini are hardly "mixed": all the comments are positive with the exception that it is actually a B&B and not a true hotel with hotel services. For June in Venice I think the price is very good.

OK bardo. I guess I was looking for more raves. We'll see what is what. Zoecat, yes I looked at Corte 1321. Not exactly what we are looking for by the looks of the website but personal recomendations are always more valuable. I'll take another look. Thanks.

Are you sure that Ca'Gottardi is only E160 in June. I paid E200 in Oct 2004 and they also quoted E200 for November 2005 (and that was low season for a "long stay"
. If you can really book for this low amount, grab it! It's a beautiful B&B in a great location right on the Strada Nuova so you can walk just about anywwhere in the historic center. It's also very, very close to the Ca' d'Oro vap stop.

Sorry, got the Ca Gottardi rate on their website. Probably more when trying to book. Ca Bonvicini advertises a rate of less than we are being charged, too. I checked the Accadamia and the price is higher than we would like to pay but maybe I will recheck that. Thanks again.

Hi, I've been recommended the Al Ponte Mocenigo. It's a 2* but it offers good rates, a/c, and it gets very good ratings at Trip Advisor.

Look, when you're in Venice, the only time you see the room is when you go to sleep and wake up . .
160 Euros is usually 2/3 star hotel and the rooms are usually small, but they're clean and the staff are usually friendly . .

We found the Locanda Fiorita to be very nice, clean and very well located on the Campo San Stefano, near the Academia bridge. It should be around 120-150 euro/night with bath in season. They fill up quickly and may offer a room in the annex nearby that is not pretty outside like the main building but the rooms are just as nice. The Galleria next to the Academia bridge is funky and fun and has views of the Grand Canal from many of its rooms.

After checking all the hotels listed in this thread for my May visit, I wound up booking the Bologna Hotel.(Some were full, some soared close to $300) Okay, spare me the well intentioned comments about how I ought to be staying in Venice and Mestre is not really in Venice. I also read that thread. A)There is a "book 3 days pay for two" special right now. That means 198 Euro for the non-refurbished or 256 for the refurbished rooms for THREE nights.B) the train ride into the city is 10 or 12 minutes according to posters here and costs one euro.C) We are not night life seekers, so go to bed early anyhow. D)Posters said the breakfast is awesome. E) We opted to stay outside of Salzburg last year instead of in the old town. Had to ride a bus about 10 minutes into town, but we enjoyed the change of scene and it did not bother us. One of the arguments made about staying in Venice proper is the early morning scene, which we can still partake of, since my husband gets up early and wakes me anyhow.
Sorry, Rex, and all the others who think I'm not going to have a real Venice experience, but at least I'm not going to have an ulcer over high hotel bills.
