Before we visited Scotland the first time, we were advised that Monachyle Mohr would be a great place to have a meal. That didn't fit into our schedule, but we did drive all the way into the glen. The scenery is beautiful, but as janisj says, there's nothing nearby. I think it would be difficult to use as a base for a precious few days' touring around. That single track road is SLOW.

You have all convinced us that what we really need is a good reasonable B & B for the two days we have this way. Not these expensive places. So knowing that, can you recommend besides what was already provided in that centrally located or two of them in order to see the Trossachs and surrounding area (up to Oban) as it seems we can do that. Thanking you all in advance for your help.

We have landed on a place which received nothing but rave reviews on Trip Advisor. It is the Westerton in Callender. We will base there for two nights and do trips around that area. They show around 6 driving trips on their website. None include the Oban so that tells us there must be a lot to see around there.
Two restaurants getting great reviews - Poppie's and the Callender Meadows.
Any comments? Thanks everyone.

I haven't stayed at the Westerto so can't help you w/ that. But Callander is a great base. Many more things to see/do than time to do them in. Plus Callander has a great tourist information center, places to eat, shops etc.
If you want a great picnic location - take the launch out to Inchmahome priory on an island in the nearby Lake of Menteith.
Also - you can take the Sir Walter Scott out on Loch Katrine.
