This may be a ridiculous question, since from what I have gathered the weather in Scotland is very unpredictable---but are there times of the day in September that are more likely to be clear? We're spending most of our time in Glencoe, the Northwest and either Skye or Orkneys (haven't decided). Thanks!

In short no. The weather extremly unpredictable and unless you're fortunate enough to be here during a settled high pressure system there's no way of predicting more than a couple of days ahead.

Could be virtually anything, nothing at all to do with the times of day.

Broadly, though, September and June have the driest weather, though no one can predict what it will be any individual day or hour.

Skies in the Highlands, particularly Glen Coe, can be very dramatic. If you have a sky filter for your camera, your friends may be blown away by your pictures.

Twice we've been in the Highlands in early September and both times encountered quite cold rain followed the next day by brilliant but cool sunshine. Definitely plan your wardrobe for rain and cool-to-cold weather by taking layers and rain gear. There's no way to predict with certainty what the weather will be each day, let alone each hour.

I've been burned on the Cuillins on the last weekend in September, twice
