Scotland in early March?
I am in the process of researching destinations for our 9th wedding anniversary and Scotland has come up as an option. We both loved our visit to Ireland in November 2009 and have long wanted to visit Scotland as well. We would fly into Endinburgh and possibly take day trips from the city or do a fly/drive tour. My question is: what - in general - is the weather like at that time of the year? We don't mind the cold; in fact, we prefer it ... but torrential downpours made Ireland a bit more hectic than we would have liked.

Weather here is impossible to predict with any certainty, one can only generalise. It definitely won't be warm - temperatures between 5 and 12 degrees C would be my best guess. It may be sunny sometimes, it will probably rain sometimes and it's highly likely to be windy at least some of the time. It's unlikely to snow but it's possible. It's generally slightly warmer and wetter in the west than in the east and colder as you move north as you'd expect. It probably generally rains less than in Ireland (which is why Ireland is so green.) Check out weatherbase.com for the areas you are thinking of visiting.

In early March temps could be anything from below 0C or around 20C. Possibly on consecutive days.
The average is more likely to be between 2 & 8C with the former being more likely in early March.
Snow is possible, rain is probable, wind is an almost certain, there might even be some sunshine or it could be like today thoroughly grey, windy, miserable, low cloud & 5C despite a promise 2 days ago of a glorious weekend with temps heading up to nearly 20C.
