Scotland - a night in Oban or Inverarary?

We will be taking the ferry from Skye to Maillig in the morning and then driving to either Oban or Inverarary, stopping at Glencoe on the way Trying to decide between the two --- any thoughts?

Based on recommendations from Sheila, one of our Scotland experts, we have booked into the Pierhouse Hotel in Port Appin, just north of Oban for 1 night in May. Here's their website:

It depends on WHERE you are going after that night.

the road through Glencoe (A82) takes you sort of away from Oban/Inveraray. Whether it makes sense to back track to either depends a lot on where you are going next.

Personally I would rather stay in between- but given the choice, I'd pick Inverary because it would give you a chance to dine at the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar. Oban's a bit bereft of fine dining.

Depending on budget, in between you will find, the Cuilfail at Kilmelford, the eponymous Kilmartin, the Loch Melfort, the Cairnbaan and the Crinan. You pays your money and you takes your choice....

To answer Janis, we will be going to Glasgow the next day to catch a evening flight to London. Somewhere inbetween the two is fine as well. We were just thinking we might like someplace with a town, rather than all on its own, as we will just have spent 3 nights out by Dunvegan on Skye.

Any of my suggestion will do then. Go for Inverary, I think. Or have a look at the Creggans Inn.

In the end it's all down to personal taste

OK - since you are just going on to Glasgow it probably doesn't make that much difference. In/near Inveraray would be my choice too. Sheila's suggestions are good ones.
