My wife & I are planning a 15 night trip to Scotland next May/June. Here is the itinerary we are thinking about. We have never been to Scotland so comments/suggestions are welcome.

Nights 1-3 in Edinburgh
Rent a car at the airport and drive to St. Andrews via East Neuk
Nights 4-5 in St. Andrews
Drive north to Dufftown/Craigellachie
Nights 6-7 in this area/visit a couple Distilleries and a pilgrimage to Pennan {Local Hero Fan}
Nights 8-9 in Inverness/see Cawdor, Culloden, Loch Ness cruise among other things
Drive across the highlands to Isle of Skye
Nights 10-11 in Portree/sightseeing on the island
Take the ferry from Armadale to Mallaig and on to Loch Linnhe/stay near Onich
Nights 12-13 on Loch Linnhe/sightseeing in the area, ie..Ben Nevis & Glen Nevis
Drive to Loch Lomond via Glencoe/Rannoch Moor
Night 14 on Loch Lomond
Drive thru the Trossachs to Stirling Castle and back to Edinburgh
Night 15 near the Edinburgh airport

At this point, we have no desire to see Glasgow or head south. The idea is to visit selected sights/castles along the way and then spend some time in the general vicinity.

Any thoughts?

Looks a lot better than most first shots

My biggest problem (and it is more of a quibble than a problem) is w/ night 14 - I'd maybe stay in/near Callander/Aberfoyle/Port of Menteith. But on Loch Lomond would be OK too.

I pretty much agree with janis. Quibbling only:-

I wouldn't stay IN Inverness. In fact I might not move from Craigellachie.

I wouldn't stay in Onich with a horrible tourist trap. Nicer places not far away.

FWIW, we loved staying at the Craigellachie in 1998.

I would not shorten your stay on Skye, but you could see Loch Ness on your drive from Inverness to Skye rather than as a day outing from Inverness.

I agree about staying in Oban for a night. And I'm not sure I'd spend 2 days in St. Andrews, with the eastern Highlands beckoning.
