Same with Oban - gets you ro the Mull ferry -- but once you are on Mull your options are very limited.
One of the wonderful options when you are on Mull is to take the bus, which leaves from the street across from the ferry port, to Fionnphort, where you can catch a ferry to Iona, a truly beautiful little island. The ferry to Iona takes only foot passengers, and Iona is a small island, so you can easily visit it on foot. There are various early Christian sites and an ancient cemetery there. In fact, Iona was the first point where Christianity entered Great Britain and spread south from there via missionaries from Ireland. Later, missionaries from Rome arrived in Kent and spread north. There was a bit of a kerfuffle when the two varieties of Christianity met in the middle. However, they settled it without coming to blows.

I highly recommend the St. Columba restaurant on Iona. After your meal, you can sit in their lounge and admire the scenery from their large windows, Or you can just walk around. On one of the ancient buildings, there is a quotation from a monk who lived there over 1000 years ago: "There's no place better to live or die than Iona." After visiting the island, I can see why he felt that way.

bvienci’s post is absolutely spot on down to the St. Columba restaurant on Iona. Visiting the small isle is truly a wonderful experience. I’d also recommend doing a bit of walking along some of Iona’s paths off the main track.

Thanks janise. Could you explain what Robbies is please?

It's Rabbies and are mini-bus tours mainly - I know nothing bout them but experts like janis and others continually tout about how great they are. Pretty good endorsement IMO. Janis is boycotting this thread but others may chime in and the official site tells a lot. Interlaken would be a place to take a 1- or more-day tour of the rugged Highland or say Whisky trails, etc. Maybe a 1-day tour on Skye too?
